     I would NEVER buy media on Ebay

    There are just too many other great places that DON'T SELL FAKES

    NewEgg
    SuperMediaStore
    Meritline
    Rima

    ...just to name a few ...

    cmax,

    PLEASE heed this warning, i would definitely NOT suggest buying ANY media off ebay, despite if the guy is a power seller or even has good feedback.

    i am guessing RIGHT now, based on my own experience w/ TYGO2 coding, that these are right off the bat, FAKES...i am betting they are the FAKE Taiyo Yudens that people have been going around selling...i'll put my money where my mouth is that these are actually made in taiwan with the following coding or similar on the inner hub : -R8x DH 05 19.

    the reason i am warning you is MY OWN fake TYs, were given to me from a friend of mine that told me he had purchased them from ebay due to the great price...well, he got what he paid for, i really think you should AVOID these at ALL COSTS...penny saved is NOT a penny earned in this particular case.

    that is just my 2 cents...hehee...people are calling me "Mr. TY" now...i found that kinda silly~ :)

    @ "MR TY": Yesterday my friend came home to do some burning and exchange things, he brought some "EGITAL" disk, DVD identifier identified them as TY0G2, but I think they are fakes due to their low price (50cent each) the number on the inner hub is: 0302, 8213, r8xd19, WAIT THEY ARE FAKES I JUST NOTICED YOU HAD YOUR FAKES HAD THE SAME CODE, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    what's scary is i'm becoming known as the Verb God, i can't remember which thread it was now, there was this guy (nice guy) who was asking where i was in a thread and was the Verb God sleeping. Bless!.

    just means i can't start slacking and get Verb stuff wrong...

    And i've just noticed the thread title and realised i've fallen off topic again, so...

    "have used a few more of my fabled first 100 TY's, no problems yet"

    Hello, I fugured I would follow up.

    I decided to go with:
    FUJI 4.7GB 8X DVD-R Printable 50 Pack Disc - Retail $28.50 +$4.00s/h
    from Newegg.com
    It seems like a good deal, Best Buy has a 25 pack for the same price.
    Fuji Media has worked GREAT in the past.
    Thanks for the advice everybody :)

    @paz

    well, this is like the 3rd time i've wrote this as there STILL is something wrong w/ me submitting a reply here on AD. :)

    those FAKE TYs that i have do in fact still play on my pc, however, they NEVER did in any of my stand alone dvd players i own. with that being said, when i say they "still play," that does not mean they play without problems. there are still some MAJOR issues regarding the fake TYs, they freeze unexpectedly/pixillation to a point it looks like a snowstorm on my lcd screen/cause powerdvd to stop in places where nothing i can do on my computer to fast forward the movie.

    anyways, that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the problems they have caused for me personally, my suggestion to you and your friend is to "try" to backup those backups you made on those discs onto some GOOD media, before it's too late and they are rendered completely useless and they will be unreadable, even on the computer.

    i feel for your friend and hope that it is not too late~ good luck and hopefully there was nothing TOO important on them. :p

    @cmax420: It may be that you know have on your hands some FUJI DVD-R but Im dissapointed to tell you that what you may have on your hands may be prodisc branded, although not bad they are not as good as the Taiyo Yudens, check if the Fuji you bough are made in japan, which means that they are Taiyo Yudens, if they are made in taiwan they are made by prodisc.

    @Kivory: Well there was something VERY VERY IMPORTANT on those disc,I hope I can convince them of changing to the real thing (Real TY) or at least some prodisc (which obviusly is better than the fake TY), the problem is I told them that I was suspicius about that media that it was better to change brand and they bough some.....PRINCO!! LOL, I better help my friends before they blame my burner or me because their "Precious" Data was lost although those disc worked "perfectly" on them...

    @cmax,

    what paz said earlier is true, well, at least LOCALLY here in California for the Fuji 8x dvd-r, i have NOT been able to find ANY made in japans anymore, i still have a few spindles i picked up about 3 months ago, but, they are considered a rare item now~ :p

    another way to go about obtaining your TYGO2s would be online, naturally, i would recommend what everyone else here recommends if you are in the U.S.

    www.supermediastore.com
    www.rima.com
    www.meritline.com

    search through the Taiyo Yuden media section and you will find that all 3 of the stores have what you are looking for~

    sorry, i just noticed you posted that you ordered them from newegg.com, yes, i never ordered media from them before, so i couldn't tell you about how reliable they are in terms of media, but, i have ordered thousands of dollars worth of computer hardware and they've been great/trustworthy~ :p sorry, i caught your post a little late~ :)

    anyways, let us know about how they turn out...you should be ok, i would say personally myself the Prodisc ones are not as good as the Taiyo Yuden ones, but, in no way would i consider Prodisc the same BAD quality/level as Optodisc/Princo/Memorex (CMC MAG)...so, you will not be at a TOTAL loss if you do in fact get the prodisc media~ :)
