I have a PC that I'm using as a HTPC. Specs are as follows: Pentium 4 HT 3ghz 3GB RAM ASUS AH3650 Video w512MB AGP - Using the HDMI output 2 120 IDE Hard Drives 52" Samsung LCD TV XP MCE 2005 Running at 1920 x 1080 Divx / Xvid movies run great, as do any other video format that i've run into. MKV 720 files look beautiful and are great. The problems starts when I'm running MKVs encoded in 1080. The audio runs perfect, but the video runs slow... not quite half the speed, but definitely slower than the audio. As far as codec packs, I'm curretnly using the CCCP pack. I've tried the K-Lite Full Codec Pack and it does the same thing. I've also tried various players (MPC, Zoom, MP) and it's all the same. Is there a configuration that I'm missing, or maybe some other codec that I should install? Or could it be simply the PC is older, and can't handle running the file? With the newer video card, I assumed that it would handle the video part that the processor might lag on.
As I had thought, it all comes down to processor power still. 1080 runs incredibly well on my Duo-Core E8400. And that's with a mere HD2400 ATI card. Despite what is to be said for GPUs, CPUs still reign supreme.
