Hi all, first time here, I purchased a Canon SX1 IS which records 1080p 30 FPS movies at 42 Mbps, this means BIG BIG file sizes for short movies. Since I'm newbie at video editing/recoding I would like to understand what would be a good final and balanced video settings to watch on Full HD TV, using PS3 to play it (supports H.264) from a streaming LAN Media Server.

I tried Handbrake on MAC using default PS3 preset (H.264 (x264) with average bitrate being 2.5 Mbps and no cropping or resolution downsize) and the result completely sucks, looks like standard divx movies :(

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance.

the best thing to do would be try different settings on short clips and see which ones you think look best.

I would recommend to try to downsize to 720p at around 4-4.5 mbs.

And the one you did would look good at 2.5mbs if you dropped the resolution down to SD format (DVD specs). That's what I keep my movies in, and let the upscaler do its job..ends up looking pretty good. But all this is opinion.
