    Sorry anubis but this is not a true 1080p projector. The native resolution is 1024x768 (not even widescreen). A 1080p signal gets scaled down to the native resolution. You really need a 1920x1080 resolution to have true 1080p.

    yeah I feel you eatsushi I think that most people like the thought of the projector because its a HUGE! PICTURE, everyone want a big ass screen to battle on but that is the one bad con's about them is they wont out do a hdtv with 1920 x 1080 . I think 1024 x 768 would look good though for a projector , unless we can find one that is 1920 x 1080 that would really rock!

    @eatsushi: Congrats on the new Panasonic projector. My cousin has the same model in his home theater and it rocks. Any particular reason why you chose the high contrast grey screen? I still have a way to go on my basement project. The in-wall speaker cables are in and I'm waiting for the HDMI, component and power cables that I ordered. After that comes the drywall, sound panels, screen etc. I probably will get this done by January or February. And yes I've ordered the "PEARL".

    @DamonDash: I agree with you and eatsushi. Those Sony LCD Bravias are really good with most any kind of EDTV or HDTV signal.

    @anubis: We had one of those Epson Powerlite projectors at one of our conference rooms at work. It's mostly a business type projector and not really meant for home theater. It's best suited for power point presentations and it's a non-widescreen 4:3 display. If you look at the specs its native resolution is actually SVGA (800x600). You can coax it to resize to 1024 x 768 but with only 400:1 contrast it becomes unwatchable unless you're in a totally dark room. Look elsewhere.

    @blacGoku: Look at eatsushi's projectorcentral link and you'll see a list of the most popular 1920x1080p projectors including the Sony Ruby and the Sony Pearl.

    A 1920 x 1080 projector for under $1500? Maybe not in another 3 - 4 years.

    hmm so would picture quality be reduced if i use a hdmi to dvi converter??? Or should i just stick with component cables since the hdmi wont even come with the PS3. Since i dont have hdmi on my tv anyways. Would there be a significant difference between the two options or so small that it doesnt matter?

    HDMI to DVI will transmit only the video portion of the signal. The multichannel audio plus video needs HDMI to HDMI.

    This is the ideal setup for the PS3 given the single HDMI output:

    VIDEO
    PS3 -> HDMI out -> HDMI enabled receiver -> HDMI out -> HDMI display

    AUDIO
    PS3 -> HDMI out -> HDMI enabled receiver -> 5.1 or 7.1 speakers

    If your TV has only DVI you can do this:

    VIDEO
    PS3 -> HDMI to DVI cable -> DVI input on TV

    AUDIO
    PS3 -> Digital Optical/Toslink -> Digital Input on Receiver -> 5.1 or 7.1 speakers

    @dblbogey7: That Pearl projector should be mighty sweeeet! I chose the high-contrast grey Da-Mat screen for the Panny based on my ambient light situation and because it lowers the black levels. It has a gain of 0.8 which suits my pj and room conditions best.

    Here's Dolby Labs press release on the PS3:

    http://investor.dolby.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=211947

    5.1 Dolby Digital will be available for gaming. 7.1 DD and TruHD will be available for BD movie playback. However, without analog outs the only way to get Dolby TruHD will be thru HDMI. Time to upgrade my audio system with an HDMI receiver. LOL!

    I don't know if anyone has said this already or not, i didn't see it when i skimed through.
    But if you are talking about new tv's for your ps3 you better not forget about getting a hdtv with hdcp support or else you just screwed yourself for upcoming movie releases. Once they inplement this new copywrite protection you will only be able to play games and watch previously released movies.
    If you are getting the ps3 purely for games this wont matter to you, but if you have the next generation movie player too, why not use it? thats just my opinion.

    Sorry to change the subject, but LCD tv's are the best for gaming, not plazma,not projector(s) or any other type. Dont tell me other, b/c I tried them all and most people say LCD. The others are not bad, but #1 LCD 4 me.

    yeah I feel you Stefan , thats why we are here everyone is putin in there thoughts and views if they tryed them out so we all can get the best Tv for our selfs , I think all tv's have there pro's and cons like the plazma has a brite crystal clear picture but you cant play on them long or you get burn ins , and the projector is dark and not as brite as the lcd's or plazma 's but they have the biggest picture which puts you deeper in the game . its does look great if you have buddies and you want to battle you have all that screen to view but one thang I want to know is will the HDTV 1920 x1080 projector be more clear then and LCD ,have you tryed one Stefan with this many pixels 1920 x1080 ?

    blacGoku - HDCP is like DRM for next generation move players. I don't know the date that this will take affect but supposedly about a year a two from now all moves will have hdcp on them. if you tv doesnt have this chip or whatever it is in it it will downscale your 1920x1080p picture to 960x540p.

    Just figure if you are gonna pay 1-2 grand on a tv, you might want to get the right one. At my local best buy and circuit city they each had one tv with hdcp in it. so check it out.

    here is a pretty good site with really in depth information
    http://www.digital-cp.com/home

    and here is the wiki article on it if you trust it

    honestly if you are looking at brand new tv's you aren't going to see as big a difference in picture anymore. DLP's have better contrast ratios, but the lcd's and plasma have closed the gap considerably. and the burn in effect has been almost completely taken out of the picture with the 2006 model, i'm sure the 07's it won't be an issue on any brand. we the difference in all three of these display type are actually very little if you actually know what to look for. and can ask the right questions.
    as for projectors, i don't know much about them but from most of the video people i talk to it is the cheapest route for a huge picture.
