im not 100% sure but i do believe you can use component cables to output 1080p just check your quick start manual and it tells you all the outputs of each cable
I think that components top at 780p but you should be able to get 1080i. To get 1080p your HDTV needs to have the right hardware, because thats how hdmi works. Your playstation doesn't decode it, your TV does. But basically thats a no for 1080p component.
I can guarantee that component cables provide 1080i. That's how i have my cable box connected. The PS3 is connected with the HDMI cable. On both fronts, I have no complaints
You can get 1080p through component from your PS3. But you can only do this when playing games. When you are watching Blu-Ray it will be (more than likely) downconverted. I could be wrong as of now though because I know alot of the Blu-Ray movies out now don't have HDCP yet. If they do then they will be downconverted (I'm not sure what to exactly). Thats where HDMI comes in. Other than that component will deliver 1080p in all cases as long as your TV can accept it through component.
you are correct,on my 19" hdtv i`m getting 1080p with a componant cable and blueray moviesonly display at 720p.
