I got a weird problem on my hands regarding a Dell laptop I just got.

For some reason, the internet just won't work on it. I was told it was able to connect to Wifi and that some switch thing on the side turned it on or off. I tried running the home network wizard to connect to my home network that allows me to connect to the internet but it does nothing but run through it, and recommends I run the wizard on the other computers...I say no, it says it finished but the internet doesn't work. I ran the wizard twice, with the switch one way, then with the switch the other.

I decided to plug an ethernet cord into it thinking that would solve it...nope. Ran the wizard, exact same thing. Ran through it and nothing happened. What the hell is going on? I got a direct line to my router and it still doesn't work.

Under my network connections all I have is some 1394 Connection that says it's working (Indicated by 2 blue monitors and some T shaped thing) but when I try to go on the internet, nothing.

Nothing useful in the properties other than saying the connection uses 3 items:
    1. Client for Microsoft Networks
    2. File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    3. Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Can someone please help me? I'd like to get the wifi going.

1394 indicates a firewire connection. look in device manager under network adapters & post what is listed there. see if there is a yellow exclamation in device manager. what is the make & model# of the dell?
