i always had a 8x burner. i had bought a 16x sony dvd-rw drive...but when i use DVD shrink it still encodes at the same speed. Was it just to speed up the burning process alone?

The Shrink encoding process depends on the drives DVD reading rate. Most burners are "riplocked" into how fast they can read a DVD.
If you want to improve your ripping or encoding speed, I suggest you buy a DVD-ROM (specifically the Lite-On 167T) which rips extremely fast and use your burner only for burning. (It will also extend the life of your burner.) Another alternative, is to use modified firmware for your burner which may remove the riplock.

    Hi there,

Encoding time also depends on your CPU speed and memory.

    I moved my LG-4040B DVD Burner from an AMD 1Ghz (256mb) to a new Pentium 4 , 3.2 Ghz and 512 Mb of DDR2 @ 533 Mhz.

Same DVD burner (Ripper) and man what a difference in the encoding portion.

Use AnyDVD, DVDShrink and burn with Nero !
