Is 8x DVD+R preferred over 16x ?? I'm wondering why I seem to see better deals on the 16x. I figured it's because more people buy the 8x. Also, does anyone know where there's a better deal now on Verbatim +R and TY +R than at Meritline ?? I couldn't find any better deal. Thanks.

Culchie- well 16x Media is Pretty much the Defacto Standard of what you'll find in most stores ! You might find some 8x media here and there in stores that sell DVD media but do'nt sell a lot of it - Like Drug stores ect... But those disc will be old or back stock !!! Nothing wrong with them mind you but they're not current production !!!Keep in mind though we are talking about Actual Brick and mortar stores That you can visit and shop in here ! On the On-line retailer side You can still Buy Taiyo Yudens , Ritek,s & possibly Verbatims in the 8X speed ! You may even be able to find the odd spindle of 4x media here and there but I would'nt count too much on that ! Though Noramlly the media you order from an online retailer is Bulk Pacakaged = Spindles of 50 or 100 and with no brand name printed on the disc Surface itself( Like the Taiyo Yudens are ) Where as you noramlly find Branded media in the Brick and Mortar stores ! Back to your original Question ? As long as the Media and Burner are Compatable either speed is equally Good assuming your talking about Media of equal Quality in each speed ! The price diffrence you mentioned may simply be a case of There is more 16x Media available ? Supermediatore.com ,Meritline.com & Rima .com are The 3 big online retailers that most members use/trust atleast steteside anyways? On the Verbatims If you use the Branded ones ( Retail Pacakaing ) you can often find them on sale at BestBuy, Newegg, CircuitCity ect... - Hope This was helpful ? Cheers!!!

I'd take the +8x media from the following in a heartbeat:

    Made in japan sony/fuji: Yuden000-T02
Made in Japan Maxell: Maxell-002-00. Hitachi!!!!!!
    Verbatim Data Life Plus: MCC-003

Throw in Ricohjpn and Ritek along with them.

All those were very good and extinct in my realm.

4x: Most of if sucked. My success rate went from 75% to 99.999% after moving up to the 8x and higher speed of media.

You just gotta keep an eye out for the Big 3 sites. Supermediastore, rima, meritline. One of them always has the cheapest price.

Keep an eye un the media thread here at AD and also Bargain basement at cdfreaks.com. When there's a hot deal, somebody usually posts it.Stock up when you run into them.
