hi just wondering does anybody know the differance between aerials with high gain and low gain and which aerial would you use for n*l mmds in co galway and where would get it from .i know the downconverter is between 222Mhz-408Mhz and the power supply is stander enoght ,its just the aerial thats got confused . i am about 13 miles from the n*l transmitter in toomabrackey galway any help would be great thanks everyone
Most of the downconverters you get are standard gain ~ 30db .Some go up to 37db. The actual aerial component can vary from 12 db (Corner Reflector) to 24db (Large Grid). Yagis are ~14db and small grids ~18db. As you are relatively near the transmitter you shouldnt need too much gain. A Yagi or small grid should be sufficient.
If you are very near the transmitter (< 2 miles) then the signal strength can be too strong. You are far enough away so the more gain the better.
