I recently purched 1click and remember reading something about how every time I burn, a notice or something will be sent out. Could someone tell who this notice is going to and if I can somehow stop this from being sent.

    thanks

They were yanking your chain, trying to have a little fun at your expense. Forget about it. Doesn't happen.

Not necessarily. I have not used 1 click, but most (if not all) other programs (including Nero, DVDSanta, X video converter etc.) would try to send out certain messages during operation. You'll know if you have your firewall on.

    Hi,

It is true VSO Software does collect burning information, but not without users having first given their permission to VSO Software.
The information collected is anonymous burning information sent each time a media is burnt (that is if user consented to allowing VSO to collect this information). No information collected can be used to identify any given user or computer.

Found in 1 Click software is VSO Softwares burning engine. VSO Software has asked 1 Click to incorporate into their software the option for users to sent burning information. This may have been incorporated by now.

In VSO Software program CopyToDVD this is the information you will find on "Media Statistcs collected":

"In order to improve the quality of our software, and to establish
a chart of good media based on the end user's experience,
we are collecting media and hardware information.

Each time a burn process has been finished, information about
the process (software version, used writer and media,
success/failure) is submitted to our server.

As an internet connection is required, you should only activate this
feature if you have a permanent connection.

NOTE: We do not collect any information that may help to identify a
    given computer or person!"

When this was first implemented in VSO programs VSO published news on their site on March 27th 2005, http://www.vso-software.fr:

"Updates of CopyToDVD and BlindWrite are about to be released. The most interesting new feature is an anonymous statistic database connection about the used drive, media ID and speed, and error code if any. You can read technical information about this feature here
Why did we implement this feature ? for VSO, it will be an opportunity to be more reactive and provide more reliable products. By detecting new drives released in the market, latest firmwares, and statistics about media usage and failure rate, the real time information will be used to improve the technical support and knowledge. We don't collect any information about users or the kind of data burnt. Of course, this is optional, and users can desactivate the feature at the installation.

Drive and media manufacturers will be able to benefit of the data collected to improve their own products as well. They can contact us for more information.

Users will benefit of this exciting database by checking which drive and media are the most reliable. A special web space will be available in a few weeks for end-users and webmasters."

This information will soon be made available to the public, now that VSO has had the time to collect quite a bit of information on media and hardware, hopefully this summer.

If you want more information or have any questions or comments please feel free to contact VSO via this link: http://www.vso-software.fr/contact.htm
