Hello all, This is my 1st post so please bare with me. I have a Acer Aspire 5630-6966 with Vista home Premium and it has been rather sluggish for a while now. I suspect there may be something on it causing all this but I need some help. The other (quite annoying) problem is my download speed. I have a 512mb connection with a Netgear DG834G wireless router. The main computer is connected directly to the router, while two others (laptops) including this one are connected through network cards. Even with the other two computers turned off the maximum ownload speed I can get is 20-30kB. If anyone can help with these problems please by all means do so. Here is my log, if you need anything else I'll do it asap. Thanks Les Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 8:32:38 AM, on 23/06/2008 Platform: Windows Vista SP1 (WinNT 6.00.1905) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6001.18000) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\winssnotify.exe C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exe C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe C:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exe C:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exe C:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exe C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eDataSecurity\eDSloader.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Windows\system32\igfxsrvc.exe C:\Windows\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnscfg.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Windows\ehome\ehmsas.exe C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\ENET\ENMTRAY.EXE C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\EPOWER\EPOWER_DMC.EXE C:\Users\Les\AppData\Local\Temp\RtkBtMnt.exe C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\ACER.EMPOWERING.FRAMEWORK.SUPERVISOR.EXE C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eRecovery\ERAGENT.EXE C:\Windows\system32\lvcomsx.exe C:\Windows\System32\mobsync.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\LComMgr\Communications_Helper.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exe C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9e.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ninemsn.com.au/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://en.au.acer.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://en.au.acer.yahoo.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://g.ninemsn.com.au/0SEENAU/SAOS01?FORM=TOOLBR R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! ¤u¨ã¦C - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\yt.dll O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost O2 - BHO: &Yahoo! Hi Les9508, Try a Generic Clean and see if that helps.. As far as your download speed, talk to your ISP and ask what to expect, run some speed tests and if it doesn’t come up to the advertised speeds then change Internet Service Providers…… Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. DO NOT use yet. Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Free • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.)[/i] • Under the "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences... button. • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked. • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked): o Close browsers before scanning. o Scan for tracking cookies. o Terminate memory threats before quarantining. • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. • Do not run a scan just yet. Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All. • Click the Empty Selected button. • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator". Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows: • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next". • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK". • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next". • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu. • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again. o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab. o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log. o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply. • Click Close to exit the program. 2OG
Hey Les9508. To set your computer for the highest internet speed, I would recommend TCP/IP Optimizer, but if you choose to do it the easier way, Iobit's Advanced Windowscare Personal is your choice. Also, you might want to consider a download manager, which can increase speeds tremendously. Free examples include: Free Download Manager, FlashGet, Fresh Download... etc etc. If you are willing to pay, I will definitely recommend Internet Download Manager. The download speed boost by this product is fantastic. From a mere 2-10 kb/s to over 50 kb/s, no other product does it better. Best Regards
