I heard that 1TB drives die quite quickly, is this true? Seagate have 5 yr warranty though, but it is annoying to send it back n fourth. I would probably use the 1TB hard drive in a external enclosure. Should i get 1tb or should i get something smaller like 750 or 500?

edit: also are there NAS enclosure?

Previous Maxtor 1 Tb externals have had thermal management issues.

I've not heard of any issues with the 1TB WD GreenPower or Samsung F1 drives, I know that much.
