So basically i can read/write/rip all CDs read/rip DVDs but its impossible to write to any DVD (-r/+r) Memorex DVD-R TDK DVD+R Everything up until here was the same...
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...while the firmware for your burnere is the most recent it is still going on four years old. Old burner + new discs = burn errors. Unless you can find some older discs that have a slower rating you may need to buy a new drive. The good news is that a new drive will only set you back about $40 from Newegg or your favorite online retailer. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1518 You are also using two of the most questionable brands of Ritek and Memorex, I would suggest Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden for my future ventures. Also there are some issues with Nero 8 for a few users, but I haven't been keeping up with the lates release. Maybe someone familiar will chime in with some input there.
Obviously im no expert, but wouldnt the drive being old not matter, cause it burns at its speed. I imagine that the DVDs can handle a slower speed. I mean if that is the case (old burners cant burn new dvds even at slow speeds) that seems counter intuitive. But thanks for your input, im relieved its not the settings.
The problem is not the drive itself but rather the firmware that is lacking updates. The firmware contains information that tells the drive how to handle media. The last firmware revision for your drive was several years ago when 8X media was the norm. If there isn't a new firmware written to tell your drive how to write on your new DVD's then more than likely the burns will fail. Blank DVD's have an MID on them which the firmware reads and interprets and burns from there. You could always try to find some slower rated media and see how they work, but I doubt you will be able to use newer media.
