I just got a HP Vectra VL400 MT today, it was running Linux Xubuntu 9.1 and i still also have the HP 521c. i took the DVD Drive and CD-RW Drive from the 521c as well as my 256mb RAM Stick and put them in to the VL400. the VL400 came with only a 10GB HDD, and my 521c had a 60, anyways. so i took the 60GB and put it into the VL400. i still have the 10GB sitting with me and was gonna make a "external" HDD, but also noticed the VL can hold to HDD's? how would this work? how would it read? will it be too much for the MoBo? or will it add the 10GB to the other 60? please explain this to me, any suggestions on what to do with that 10GB? all help is greatly appreciated.
the hdds should have jumpers that you can move around on the back set on to master and one to slave or both to cable select. hook up one as master and one as slave the ribbon cable should have two connectors on it so you can hook up two hdds and the pc should just see them both
and from the PC "seeing" both what am i able to do with this? will the slave HDD just be like an "extended Memory"? to save extra files to and what not?
Don't use it as an external...you can get a 8GB flash drive for about the same price as a case for that old drive.
The extra drive will have its own separate drive letter, such as E: or F: depending on what other drives you may have installed. Dick
