i use DVD Decrypter first to store the movie to my HD, then use dvd shrink to burn it. it takes over 2 hours for it to analyze and burn the movie. is there a faster way? some setting to adjust?
What are your computer specs i.e. processor and ram? Perhaps, you need to bring back your DMA on. There is a possibility that your DMA has gone into PIO Mode. To bring back DMA back on (if you have Win XP), try the following steps, then do another back up and see what's the new result. Remember not to surf the net and have any other programs running while you're encoding and backing up movies alright. ((((( To enable DMA back on by "uninstalling" it's driver ))))) A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES" B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER" C) left click on +sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive (do it once at a time and restart once at a time) E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner and install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!! NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (A) left click on + sign of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (B) double left click on either Primary or Secondary IDE Channel (NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the next step. (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!! NOTE: To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero: Open up "Nero Ultra" or "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under either Primary or Secondary <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.

How much RAM is installed on your comp and how much are available? Have you tried removing some audio channels/edit start-end frames in Shrink? Have you tried using the Reauthor mode instead of backing up the entire movie? Are you multi-tasking during the analyzing/encoding part? Do you have spyware and adware? Do you have viruses on your comp? Have you defragmented your hard drive recently?
If you do any compression, it's going to take time - the more compression, the longer it takes. Maybe you should just split the movie onto 2 DVDs (using Shrink's Re-Author/Set Frames) to avoid any compression. Then it'll take less than 5 minutes to burn.

Is your hard drive internal or external?
DVD+R single layer Imation 4.7 gig. internal hard drive and burner. i just burned kung fu hustle it took only 47 minutes. p.s. why cant i burn my copied disk onto another disk from 1 dvd drive to the dvd burner drive? it keeps saying insufficient disk space even though its well below the 4.7 gig disk capacity when i use nero.
ok my mistake, i got 256 meg ddr of ram and according to the task manager i have 74 meg available right now. i dont know how much while burning a DVD yet. thanks for the help.
hi sounds like computer is abit low on resources here, also to copy a copy use dvd decrypter on iso read then iso write = simple 4x burning should take 14/15 mins 1x takes about an hour like yours
do i set source to my dvd rom drive whic will be reading the movie from then destination to my dvd burner, and have it on iso read? what do you mean iso read then iso write?
so what you mean is iso read from the source drive which is my dvd rom and set destination to 1 of my hard drives wich is my F: drive. saves it to my HD first then set DVD decrypter to iso write and set source to tge file in my F: drive and set sestination to my DVD burner correct? . it stored the movie in 2 sepereate files, the main iso file and a 5kb MDS file do i need to burn the MDS file onto disk too? it wont let me do both ISO and MDS file at the same time so i just burned the ISO file. thanks for your paitence and help
hi yes you are spot on! just click .MDS file and it will pull the iso file in to burn it! as the iso is main big file! mds is a text sort of file with instructions in it. and no worries we all here to help ;-]) let us know how it goes! {iso should work ok too}
to burn it i cliked on the iso file not the mds. would it be faster to click on the mds file? or does it not matter? why cant it just burn from disk to disk instead of disk to hard drive then hard drive to disk?. doing the disk to hard drive takes longer than burning it from hard drive to disk. this route takes about 45 mins, at 1.5X or so write speed. it didnt write at 4X or faster. well anyways this is alot faster but i dont have to hard drive space to store all these files for all the movies im doing. i got a partitioned 80 gig and a seperate 20 gig. well thanks for all the input, im sure ill be back with other questions or problems.
If it says insufficient disc space, I think Nero is probably set to burn a temp image file to your hard disk first before burning to the blank DVD. And wherever that temp directory is set, there might not be enough space. Either change the drive location of the temp directory in Nero or uncheck the box that says to burn to hard drive first. Not recommended since on-the-fly burning from DVD burner is slower than from hard drive. But you'd need 2 drives for this anyway.
my old celeron took 2 hours to back-up a movie.I finally broke down a built one and burning less than 20 min max.
