I have been burning vcds with Nero 5.5 for years, and it has always worked for me. I have been using Memorex cds that can go up to 52X (while my computer only does 40 anyway) and my vcds are in mpg format and work in a dvd player and on my computer.

But lately, I can't burn anything! Last time, it was a power calibration failure. I tried to write at a lower speed, 24x, but it still happened. How can I fix this problem that came out of the blue?

Another problem occured when I tried to burn a audio cd. It said it cannot preform an end of disk. the first three songs work, then nothing. Can anyone help me with this problem as well?

I never up graded because I thought, if it works for what I do, why bother? I also have no idea where my serial key is, as it was a bundle. Can I avoid upgrading to fix these problems?

Power Calibration errors are media/hardware related, here are the reasons you will get this. Also, probably related to your other burning problems. This states DVD burner, but it goes for all burners.

You can try the demo version of Nero 7, available from http://www.nero.com

I upgraded to 6, I believe, and still got a power cali failure. I'll get sony disks tomorrow.

But a new problem has arised: When I put in a previously burned vcd, it says the device is not ready! When I put in a store bought cd rom or audio cd it works fine.

I'll try cleaning it tomorrow, though I have no idea how to. I'll get some help if just having a cd brand change doesn't help.

btw, thanks for that quote, it put me on the right track!

Good luck, hope it works out for you. Could be that the drive is just wearing out. You might want to think of buying a DVD burner they are pretty cheap nowadays and you burn both CD/DVD format. Newegg always has a deal running.

I burned my vcd and it works fine!! I switched to sony brand.

However, I was prompted to re-encode the video files. I already converted them and this process took twice as long for each file (3 hours of encoding). I noticed now that the files have been re-encoded, the picture is a bit cut off at the sides, so some subtitles are cut off. If I chose to NOT re-encode the video, and go with the 'non standard vcd', what will happen? Hopefully, could I get those lost centimeters back?

Could not perform end of Disc-at-once

How on earth do I fix this?!

I emailed the nero support team days ago but they haven't responded with an answer. I need to burn a data cd with all my important document files. But now I can't even burn data. it says Could not perform end of disk at once. I REALLY need to burn this data. Or could anyone suggest a free data storage? By last chance I need to save that data somewhere so when I get a new computer I can have my beloved files.

    Hi,
i am using nero 6, i had the same problem.

try to write the disc in different speed, like, if it fails in 4x, try to write in 8x.

also do not run any other application during writing disc.

you can do another thing, buy a Re writable cd, then burn the data in that cd, after that insert that cd in ur burner, then click copy disc, then select the source & destination drive both as ur burner,
then click start, thrn after copyng the image from ur RW cd, it will eject it & ask for another CD, then put a blank disc.

if u r using a laptop & it says POWER CALLIBRATION ERROR, then calibrate ur laptop battery, you can do it by competely discharging & charging the battery.

if any of it work, let me know by email shuvro2k@yahoo.com
    see ya

I can't burn on either a cdrw or a cdr and I've tried several different brands. Cheap, good, nothing works. And the nero people are taking a long time with helping me (not that I'm angry or anything). I just need help before something tragic happens and I lose all my valuable data.

Nero finally got back to me. The advice didn't quite solve my problem, but it helped me. I've included their response so maybe it could help future nero suffers. The message suggesests:

This can be caused by one of the following...

    1) Poor Media - Please try a different brand of CD or DVD media to rule this
out. And try slower or faster write speeds, depending on the media.
    2) Old firmware - Please upgrade the firmware on your recorder from the Recorder
Manufacture's web site. You can check to see what firmware you currently have on
your recorder by going into 'Programs->Ahead Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero Info Tool'
    3) Driver Conflicts - If you have or had any other CD Recording software
installed, you must uninstall this software and remove any drivers they may have
left behind. Roxio's CD creator software and WinOnCD software are the most
common programs that do this. But VOB's software as well as RecordMax Now
software also will do this on occasion.
    4) And you should always make sure you have our latest Nero, Nero Express, or
Nero Vision Express software installed, depending on the program you are using
    that reports this error message.

What they didn't say is that there are two service packs that you should get after you install nero 6 (maybe other versoins as well). Infact, there are in total 5 update packages. To pick them up, go here:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php

It hasn't completely fixed my problems, I still have to mickey around with the speed, different medias etc. But I made my back up cd and an audio cd, yea :D

I sincerly hopes this helps anyone. Maybe someone could transferr this to a nero 6 section, since this started with the subject nero 5.5.

    Lady Ferty out.
