    What kind of modem?

    Dial-up
    Cable?
    DSL?

What is the connection between the modem and the PC?

    Serial?
    USB?
    Ethernet?

You will need some kind of router, wired or wireless if you want to serve more than one IP address from a single access point.

You need a router. No way to get more than one IP address from a cable modem otherwise.
