I have a DVD that I wanted to add a menu and chapters to. I'm trying the demo version of Nero 7 (v. 7.2.3.2), using Nero Vision (v. 4.5.0.24) to add chapters. I only added 4 chapters, then saved the file for burning; no other changes. The files on the original DVD total 3.98 Gb, but once imported or added (I've tried both) into Nero Vision the file is indicated as too large to burn. I've tried several things to work around this and nothing has worked. The file created from Nero Vision is an .mpg file, which for some reason is 4.18 Gb. This is the size of the file after importing into Nero Vision, without adding anything, just to see if Vision still indicates the file is to large. Supposedly you can export the file from Vision, but it appears it can only be exported as an .mpg file. My version of Nero Vision does not give any other file format options for exporting, and I don't know how to burn it to DVD as an .mpg file unless using Nero. The Nero online help guide indicates I should be able to burn the DVD to the hard drive, which, if I could do this, I assume the size issue would disappear (I have ample space on my hard drive). An illustration of the Vision menu in the Nero online help guide shows a "Write to Hard Disk Folder" option; however, this feature does not appear in the same menu in the menu options in my version of Nero Vision. Are any of these problems because I'm using the demo version of Nero 7? Can anyone suggest a workaround to this problem? I'd like to complete my project of adding chapters to my DVD and burn it. I do have DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink on my system if I need them, but I'd like to learn how to accomplish these things using Nero 7 if I can. Thanks to all who respond.
Hi girg In this version of Nero Vision the default audio is set to LPCM - which is larger and probably why you are getting the too large to burn. Set the audio format to automatic - in Vision go to more>video options>dvd video tab. On the last screen - burn options - under 'set parameters for burning' the hard drive folder should be listed there. Vision converts the file to dvd complaint video - it will convert and put the files in a video_ts folder. You can also choose to save it as an image (image recorder option) the end file will be a dvd compliant image (.nrg file).
Thanks for your response. I've tried changing the audio configuration to evey possible option the software gives. I just tried again using the Automatic option, and still have the same problem. Regarding "On the last screen - burn options - under 'set parameters for burning' the hard drive folder should be listed there." One of the problems I have is that the ""Write to Hard Disk Folder" option that should be listed there, is not listed there, so I cannot burn to my hard drive. The the Nero online help guide shows a picture of this menu list with the "Write to Hard Disk Folder" option. For some reason, mine does not have that option. Should I re-install the software? Is there a possible issue with my hard drive being FAT32 formatted? If there's another way to save to my hard drive, please let me know.
Hmmm the fat32 should not make a diff in having the save to hard drive option. The demo may not give this option. You could try burning to the image recorder - will create a Nero image (.nrg file) but this may be where the fat32 may comes into play. I would think Nero would break it down in 1 gig files like other progs. You could then burn them using Express or Burning Rom. Did you have Nero 6 installed before? What kind of dvd are you trying to use vision with?
I do not see an option for buring to the image recorder. I was assuming it was an option included with burning to the hard drive, based on the Nero Vision guide. Please let me know if the menu option is somewhere other than in the burn options list, or if burning the image file should be done in another program in the Nero 7 suite. Yes, I had Nero Express 6 on my system before installing the Nero 7 demo. I let the Nero 7 installation uninstall Nero Express 6. Mistake? If so, should I uninstall/re-install Nero 7?
The image recorder option is under 'burn to'. Below is a pic of what I see in the last screen of Vision. The installing of Nero 7 over Nero 6 might be part of the problem. A unisntall - clean tool - reinstall may help. I would throw one more thing in the mix. Uninstall Nero - look in add/remove programs and see if anything else Nero related is there - like NeroMix, InCD. If there are uninstall those too. Run the clean tools. Reboot. Then run a registry cleaner. Here's a good free one: http://ccleaner.com Then install Nero again. Be sure to write down any serial #'s 1st. See if that helps.
I'm going to do as you suggest, uninstall - clean - reinstall (after registry clean). What are the "clean tools"? If different than the registry cleaner, is this part of Nero, or is it available for download? If so, please provide a link. Thanks for all your help. I'll let you know how it turns out.
The clean tools are from Nero and they clean up some of what is left behind uninstalling. But still pieces can be left even after running them (sorry bout the links - forgot to add them) http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html Any settings/preferences you had in Nero will be gone too so you will need to reset them.
I've completed the uninstall - clean tools - clean registry - reinstall of Nero 7, and I'm still having the same problems. Cannot burn to hard drive or burn an image, and Nero detects the file as too large. I've also tried importing smalled movie files, and unless the movie is only about 20 minutes long, it detects it as too large. Example: I imported a movie that is only 2.9 Gb in size--to large to burn. But one of the titles from that movie is only 20 minutes, and if all I do is add that title in Nero Vision, it shows it will burn. I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase Nero 7 Ultra, and so far the demo version does not function properly, so unless the problems I'm having are due to Nero 7 features disabled in the demo version, the program does not appear to work properly on my system. I have a Windows 2000 system with very large capacity hard drives, so I don't think the system is the problem. I mentioned earlier that the drives are FAT32 formatted, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd really like to make this work. I've used earlier versions of Nero (all completely removed now using the Nero Clean Tools) and have been very happy with the application. Thanks to anyone who responds.
