    hi,

i have had 3 coasters continuously. the same media used to work earlier.
its a local DVR-R. i have used it earlier of the same batch. but now i have no idea whts happening. Nero's info tool says its a FUJIFILM DVD-R.

below are the 3 logs from nero .... plz someone help me figure out whats wrong.... i'm not very keen on firmware flashing unless i'm sure it will solve my problem.
all the time the problem has been at the end when lead-in & lead-out are written... in case any other info is required plz let me know...

i need help real bad... & thanks for even readying this...

I have checked all 3 logs and can only find the following.

Your burner doesnt recognise your media, try Verbatim or Sony (made in japan)

According to my source the latest firmware for this burner is BYS3, however I cannot find update for it.

Burning too fast, slow to 4X.

I will look for firmware update, Cheers.

@Gwendolin........ It took a while and I found out some interesting links! first off THE FIRMWARE PAGE only shows that there is the BYS3 firmware for this drive but no link to download the update! then went to VideoHelp.com to check on the Sony drive...... and found that first commenter to give links about cross flashing and other stuff about the drive...... which brought me to this link .... from our own Afterdawn: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/312424
and of course Creaky comes through again with this link:
    http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A
where you can download the BYS3 update as of Nov 7th, 2004. This drive seems to be bulk and OEM and doesn't have much support. since it is old I would attempt to do what [bold]fratzicu[/bold] did and follow his advise to crossflash! It seems that he had done things wrong like multi task and had a disk in the drive but all still came out well! Just goes to show you that things can go right dispite oneself! If [bold]fratzicu's[/bold] advise fails and you toast the drive...... just replace.... drives now a days are so cheap and it might just be the best thing that you do! good luck!

Could you give the physical layout of your drives. For instance you have a Hard drive and Samsung on the primary IDE channel. Where are the rest of your drives? Do you have anything on the Secondary IDE channel?

The reason I ask is because of this:

    "6:41:38 PM #25 CDR -1023 File Writer.cpp, Line 302
    Command sequence error
    I: SONY DVD RW DW-D22A "

This might be because of the media, but if you change that and it doesn't help, it may be something else.

@gwendolin- - thanks a lot but this is wht i have to say..
    1) the same media worked earlier...
    2) whts the difference between BYS2 & BYS3?
    3) i have burnt it at 8x sucessfully earlier.. the 3rd log is at 6x... anyway will follow ur advice & try 4x and see wht happens..

@IHoe- - not keen on flashing cause i dont know how to do it.. i read the tread for the link u gave when i googled it earlier... but still scared... not ready for another drive yet..

Saltgrass- - i have a 80GB seagate on primary master. a 52x samsung CDROM on primary slave. the Sony DVD-RW on secondary master.
this is the advice that i got from sony's manual on drive connections. even i feel its something abt that command sequence error thats driving me crazy but i'm unable to get any info on that... ya it could still be the media..

thanks all for the help... eagerly waiting for more...

Firmware for your burner as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades.

also Fujifilm DVDs can be made from different manufactures from Made in Japan to Made in Taiwan. the ones made in Japan are top notch.... anything else is crap! So from spindle to spindle of these disks could range from great media to crappy media! read the lable on the spindle or box and make sure that they are MIJs! so from what you used before can be crap now!!!!

I suggest you follow the update on your firmware..... it's not hard to do and it could and most likely would solve your problem! Your drive is not new and the older it gets the more problems it will have with newer media!

the choice is yours...... I don't think you'll solve your problem without doing a firmware update..... just my 2 cents!

Considering you have several problems with your DMA staying on, if it was me, I would leave the seagate on the primary and put the CD-ROM on the secondary as slave. It usually seems best to have the DVD-RW as master so you have it that way already. I suppose the other device is an external drive? I assume you know how to set the master/slave jumpers.

I don't really understand why you show Port 3 as your secondary IDE, but that is probably some type of configuration difference.

Anyway, if other suggestions don't cure your problem you might try the above.
