I am having a really hard time on deciding weather to get 3870 or the 8800gt especially now that there are some 8800s for around 210 on newegg.com i know that Nvidia is beating ATI in benchmarks right now, but I hear a lot about how new driver updates help a lot(I haven't seen any benchmarks with catalyst 7.11 yet). I think that the 3870 will be better in the future, because of some of its features like dx 10.1 and the fact that its specs seemed to be underused right now, but i don't really know. so can i have some unbiased opinions on which one will be the best for new games and into the future.

image quality in the HD3970s is un paralleled. and it is only beign beated by a few frames here and there. it is cheaper.

REAM: I sincerely hope you mean the new G92 version of the 8800GTS. The old one is hideously slow and old compared to the 8800GT or the HD3870.
Right now the HD3870 is by far the better buy, no question.

i meant the G80 version, but i did put the ":p" at the end to indicate i was joking.

I almost bought a Pentium D for $300 and an intel 975 mother board for 275, 1 month later the core 2 duo came out, lol, would I have wasted money.

Note my use of the word 'still'. And no, IMO the pentium D never rocked. Sure it was better than a P4, but the Athlon64 X2 was out at the same time, and quite frankly took a dump on any Pentium D.

    and a big on...lol

8800GT performs better than HD3870 but old technology
HD3870 performs little worst than 8800GT but new technology

later on Nvidia will have a gpu that performs extremely well and newer technology i wonder if ATi will be able to keep it up

Probably not, but at least for now I think ATi have the superior product.
