    *apart* or *a part*?

    i may ask how long does one have to be a part of aD in order not to be banned for disagreing/posting links?

    apart from being a member in dozens of forums and not having been banned ever, i respect people for contributing to the scene but i definitely do not respect people simply for bearing a title like mod/s-mod/admin

    i pay respect to authorities in terms of character not in terms of status

    I know you have to be here longer than 7 or 8 months to have an opinion!!

    now I'm a newb for not agreeing ;) w/ someone I think debate can be a means to reach great heights, if those involved are mature in their argument's and are actually trying to reach an agreeable outcome! those cussing and calling ppl babies are not going to have the capability of reaching this sort of beneficial outcome! and sometimes are best left in their comfort zone!
    remember even though ignorance is bliss and god looks out for children and fools this is a place ppl come for knowledge and a deeper understanding!

    come now gents this tyranny is being given to ppl here to feed their ego's which will never get full! so lets leave the mods alone before their heads explode I have gotten my fill of their communist way's and am on my way out the door to bigger and better things! this forum has seen better times but I do not feel obligated to try and fix it quite a monumental task indeed!

    - you see, this is my problem with one or two of you guys. [bold]in terms of character[/bold] - you are mods on other sites but keep starting threads here (sometimes days after previous heated discussions which only makes it look worse) which are childish - sorry but there's no other word for it. everyone in life is entitled to opinions but to keep opening threads (to bait ppl) on public forums is [bold]not[/bold] showing good character.

    at the very least, your subject title is meaningless, why do you persist in fuelling these debates, as i said before in one of the other threads, you guys are no doubt knowledgeable and respected around the internet, but around here you continue to act appallingly/immaturely. can't you just let it be ?

    i certainly don't want to fuel this but when i hop around the forums i do not expect to keep seeing pettiness taking up space when there are so many legitimate threads that need help

    - Sigh, that's mature, but funny nonetheless, i do miss the fisher price jokes from my youth. the computer does actually do DVD work just fine (about 2000 so far). The computer i'm using to reply to you now is positively useless then as it's a Celeron 466 with 192MB ram.

    Hi all,

    Usually I would read these types of threads, shake my head and move on. Now it is simply annoying to read. If there is such a big problem with the mods/ admins I think some of the long standing addicts/ senior members would have addressed it. Taking time to make new nicknames to post the same gripe basically turns what may be a valid point into the thought "oh not this guy again". Lets remember this is a forum that is free to sign up, free tech information (I might add some places charge $45 U.S. dollars just to diagnose) and alot of user experience regarding some of the most raved about dvd backup software on the net today. As drd stated in a post that is now closed to err is human...and as far as I know every AD user is from earth 'cept for maybe a few of the addicts who seem to never sleep :). We are not always going to agree yet we all need to understand the mods have to read threads from everyone to try to keep the forum free and flowing. That on top of maybe having a bad day at work, lost a case of beer bet on a ballgame, argument with the wife may at that particular time cause any of them to react in ways that are questionable to some. There are better things to worry about than status, who deserves to be a mod, etc. The only thing the members of AD invest is their free time and to consistently bash them is a misrepresentation of what this site is/ should be. If for no other reason think of the "new kid on the block" who happens here, sees a thread bashing the overseers of Ad and take that as well if they can do why can't I. Now you have folks throwing hissy fits text typing instead of finding the help really need and takes the knowledgeable members (all inclusive from newbie to mods) from making progress with the totally lost person who posts a question. Not all the mods are proficient in every thread but somewhere along the line they were helpful enough to earn the position of moderator. A few months ago most of the long time addicts/ seniors were all over AD helping but with all this senseless bickering they are few and far between as some probably feel the site has lost the feeling of really accomplishing something to help others (thats my opinion). To sum it up use the pm button wisely to address the situation as threads like this popping up all the time have alot of co-signers who inflame a small issue thus creating a ruckus. We are for the most part adults, LETS ACT LIKE IT.

    Sorry if I offended anyone but this foolishness was becoming a bit annoying

    sorry, but it is just the other way around!

    this thread was a reply to this:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/237534

    flip218 comes along, posts a last reply to a thread which has been open before, asks question and then what?

    CLOSES the thread like he did many times before

    sorry, this is IMMATURE and this is what pisses me off

    if he wanted to set things straigth this can hardly be the way to do it, especially not when telling users before to use the PM function but he himself thinks it is fine to simply keep ranting about and get away with it by closing threads?

    no way

    and by the way: all i asked for is to have this deleted:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/226877

    nothing has been done here, my nick has been banned, so what?
    you expect me to put up with this?

    certainly not

    dont tell me, i'm the one misbehaving because i have not been a regular user of aD for ages

    this has become a matter of breaching ones authorities by some immature mod

    +++++++++++++++++

    believe it or not i realized this myself, BUT....
    i typed in a reply to what flip had posted, hit the button i took for the reply button, looked at my *reply* and found it to be a new thread

    well, i simply overlooked the fact that once again flip had closed a thread in which a couple of questions are still open - i.e. HIS own questions!

    and of course i could NOT correct my *title* to something useful (thanx to the forum software)

    ++++++++++++

    exactly why i registered in here in the first place

    but because some folks here spend more time on closing threads and aggrevating people who help out i get the impression that to certain mods *making use of the power they have* is more important than to settle things and help each other

    i for one will not let myself blame for being an arse provoking others

    the winner in this department is definitely somebody else

    @ UncasM_3,

    I understand your point and in the thread you linked I think vurbal explained their point. My point is airing this out in a public forum for all to read is probabyly not the way to solve it. I took time to read your dvdrb guide and its damn good, so good it was stickied.

    Now I am not a mod so I can't/ won't speak on their behalf. Have you thought perhaps he closed the thread to avoid not only continuing the heated topic but to discourage others who may not be familiar with the AD atmosphere not to do the same thing? Once again I am not in a position to defend his/ their actions..I will say as a member we should police ourselves when we see this bickering as to keep not only each other in a respectable environment but as I stated earlier the brand new folks that visit AD regularly will see this is not a site to argue. And once again that thread you linked to was you became involved in an issue that was between a mod n someone else which caused you to be banned if I read it correctly.Would this be taking place if this was a paysite, no.

    I never said you were misbehaving I stated threads which there are many recently not just yours. I ask what authority are you referring to? Freedom of speech? As far as flip being immature, I don't see it as he as well as neph do a good job at modding the spam links and moving topics to the appropriate thread forum. Apparently as all topics that get out of hand, several from the same person or total disregard for respect either way is closed from what I've seen.

    Simply speaking i was not personally attacking you or your thread but to further push my point the reply from ascii regarding creaky's pc..what did that have to do with the thread? That is what i'm referring to as to why issues like this need to either be left to cool down or done in the pm fashion as not to inflate another text boxing match.

    Sorry i'm just trying to get you and everyone else to realize there is a time and place for everything.

    Come on man. Haven't we all had enough of this? This whole mess has already gotten ugly enough and gone on far too long. In the grand scheme of things this forum is just a small part of everyone's hectic lives but we all come here to relax and forget about all the petty crap that we see so much of in our daily lives. Now I'm asking you man to man, please let's drop this and go on helping the folks that come here needing answers not useless flames. Can you help me out here?

    L8nights

    We've had some good dealings with each other. Doesn't that count for something? I need your help too buddy. We need to drop this for the benefit of the whole community.

    All I'm asking/saying fellas is there comes a point where we have to take a step back and ask ourselves what we're trying to accomplish here and is what we're doing really going to achieve that. So far we've alot of hard feelings and poison being thrown back and forth and I hope we can all agree that it's time to swallow some pride, wash our hands of all of this and do what we're here to do - help those who come here for our knowledge.

    ascii

    Don't ever pull that kind of crap again.

    @ matt

    you may be more than correct and i might be overreacting

    fact is: i tried to reply and this thread came out of it and fact is i am fed up with the reoccuring habit of adressing me (or other users) and close the thread in question

    either DONT ask question that people feel like replying to or stay away from the entire thread

    the way things are handled here by a few people goes over my head and being a super-mod at digital digest i must say this is not only new to me this is a root for many problems

    ++++++++++++++

    @ neph

    i can only repeat myself:

    i did not intentionally start a new THREAD here - i typed a reply and didnt see the thread was (once again) locked

    absolutely

    and please be so kind as to adress this very same question to those people who reply and close

    I asked you because you're here in this particular thread that you started looking for answers. This debate has been spread so far and wide that I decided I might as well start here and if you notice I didn't close this one after replying ;)

    @ neph you are write the useful ness of these post has apparently not benn forthcoming as the concerned keep getting flamed and shut-down I do see that as upsetting
    but if it is not going to help then all the post are most definately useless and an utter waste of time.
    @uncasm's I think the guide pretty well taken down they will have no choice to see how ugly this looks and remove it before even more ppl come to this forum and go newb to addict in two months just to realize hey this is just a joke!

    @matt72 if you have not already seen this happening you likly haven't been paying attention there is no small number of them that have reported of coming here usually leaving here w/ a bad taste in their mouths either some "1 mo addict/senior" will get on here and argue w/ their advice and you will never see the person in distress again! orjust the sheer amount of pointless threads going on around here!!

    as far as this being a pointless thread that is up to those in a postion of authority! and I'm afraid the decision has been made there shall be no good come of this so what it is to write is little more than vent and to see flip's pretty little ava.

    L8ter, please take that last line out. All it's going to do is make things worse. I've treated you with respect haven't I? Would it be too much to ask that you do the same for me in not fanning the flames any longer? This whole mess has to stop somewhere and I sincerely applaud anyone and everyone who can say "I'm through with this. Let's move on". The game can't carry on if there are no players......................

    @ neph,

    Thanks for stepping in as i didn't want to overstep my boundaries.

    @ ascii,

    Sorry I read that as off topic n low blow (even though I laughed at the fisher price reference :)

    @UncasMS_3,

    As I stated and will stick by sometimes its best to let things cool down or address them in pm

    @ L8ter,

    I usually read and move on but I was trying to get the thought in everyones' head that to move on and continue on the march of helping folks. No disrespect meant just me being neutral I think it would calm the issue down as to dispel nasty posts resulting in more banning. *Sometimes an outside voice of "reason" sees the future on the horizon better.
