Hey guys what kind of system would i require to speed up the render time on 3d max.
    Currently running amd 2600+
    256 meg ddr ram
gforce 4.Just trying max out but find the rendering a bit slow.

    any help appreciated

    thanks in advance

LOL and you expected what from Max? Realtime rendering teehee.., grab yourself a Wildcat or Oxygen card, SMP up the CPUs and you might have some more luck.

eeeekk.... dont just take my suggestion like that dude... those "suggestions" cost at least $1000 apiece :p

What I was marely hinting at was that Max scenes, especially the really complex ones require some serious hardware and that XP2600,256,GF4 doesnt qualify as serious hardware... at least not if you want fast renders.

hmm.. adding RAM wouldn't hurt. 1GB RAM would do rendering significantly faster.

Also you could try optimizing your scene. Use low-polygon models where high details are not needed. I don't know if you're using radiosity and ray-traced shadows, but they lower the rendering speed a lot.

    Just a few thoughts..

Praetor, upgrading really isnt that much of a problem for me it just takes a little time.I only meant in my post that i would consisder your suggestions and upgrade accordingly in my 2nd system.

    thanks for the advice

andmerr: wow send me a spare Oxygen card if you got the time :p

andmerr & teemu: check your current memory usage now when you do a scene render. If it exceeds the following usage for the different brackets then consider a memory upgrade (yesm, yes, more is always good but you wont really notice mass improvements unless you are already redlined.... of course with 256MB then you will probably benifit greatly)
    200 MB usage for 256MB
    300MB usage for 384MB
    360 MB usage for 512MB
    600 MB usage for 768MB
    800 MB usage for 1024MB
These numbers are just shots in the dark really but something to go by. :)
