I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect place to post this question - maybe it should go in digital video or cellphone forums. Please relocate as necessary. Here is my problem: I have a 30 second, 1.17MB video file with an extension of .3G2 that was recorded using my old cellphone. I want to incorporate this video onto a DVD. The video plays as it should on both the old phone and my new one. I use Nero 6.6.0.18 exclusively for DVD authoring/burning. Nero Showtime also plays the video, but here is the problem: Video is fine, but there is no audio. Same result with WMP. I've attempted recoding the video using Nero Recode, but it won't even see the file. I've searched the internet - there are several programs out there that claim to convert 3G2 to another format, but many have bad reviews, including some that say additional codecs are installed, which results in derailing the entire authoring/burning process of future projects. So I'm a little hesitant to mess up a good thing. I don't claim to be a PC or software whiz, but this old version of Nero has never failed me. Any advice would be appreciated, but I'm hoping to hear from someone who has actually had this same problem, and can advise me what they did to correct it. If it matters, I am running XP Home, SP3. It is amazing to me that an old outdated cellphone can correctly play a video, complete with audio, yet a Dual Core PC, and Nero, or WMP can't seem to handle it. Thanks for any and all help.
I think MPC can play that format. Try AviDemux to convert to MPEG2. Both programs use internal codecs.
Thanks! Tried the AVIdemux, as well as a few other free converters - no go there. I did eventually get some audio, but it was like playing a 78rpm record at 33rpm speed. What I ended up doing was, I found a site that I could upload the file to, and the site would convert it for me. Since it was a small file, it only took about 2 minutes before I had an email with a link directing me to my newly-converted file. I requested conversion from 3G2 to MP4. File plays perfectly now, with sound, in Nero Showtime, with no headaches on my part trying to figure out the correct bits and bats and rates and resolution, etc. In case anyone else may be having problems of this type, the site is Zamzar.com. It does have a tiered pricing structure, but for no more than I'll use it, it's free to me. Thanks again.
There's a newer program, XmediaRecode, that I have been using to convert mpeg files, it also lists .3g2 as input. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/XMedia_Recode
