I updated the guide with the newest v18 if Wii shop channel. Anyone that can not access the WiiShop channel download the updated softmod pack and follow the 4.2 Shop Channel section.

Thanks for the excellent guide Larry, worked a charm.

Just to let you know, I have an LEH251 console and I haven’t had a problem using cmios.

I still have this problem, can anybody help? I believe this happened after "DOWNGRADE IOS15" step. I went on and completed the rest of the guide anyway despite having an upside down homebrew menu lol. Everything works, Id just like some advice on how this can be fixed.

    System fw is 3.1 U
    Homebrew is 1.0.5
and serial on the back is "LU510306579" if it matters

Uninstall HBC, and then re-install. This has been a proven fix as this question has been answered numerous times. As for FW 4.0-4.2, acquire IOS 61 using NUSD, and install it using WAD Manager. These, should fix the inverted HBC. Hopefully, this will aid others as well...

Yes. It's basically the same way you installed it at first, which is via Hackmii installer.

Follow larry's HBC 1.0.3 & BOOTMII INSTALL part of the guide. Remember to only uninstall/reinstall HBC.

thanks for all the help pryme, apreciate it. I understand what I have to do now. But I cant seem to access the hackmii menu.

I go into the setting and into the sd tab w/o the sd card in, then when I insert it in nothing happens. It doesnt promt anything. I still have the boot.elf file on the sd, In fact I havent deleted anything on there.

    * theres a txt doc on my sd's root called "installer". Is this why I cant access hackmii?

haha Im so dumb. I went into WII SETTINGS>DATA MANAGEMENT>SAVE DATA>SD CARD TAB instead of "CHANNELS".
No wonder I couldn't access the hackmii installer.

Worked like a charm just as you said.

    Thanks again Pryme :)

I just updated wii on 4.1E but games still dont work. I get the same error 001 unauthorized device has been detected. Is there anything that I can do to make it work?

It is probably the Modchip that is giving the #001 error. Either take it out of the System or update the modchip or patch the games to block the #001 error. Please don't ask how to do that stuff in this thread. If you want to know how to do it then use Google.

To OP, and all who assisted:

For all the stress that this hobby must bring, I hope the success stories provide some relief, so here's mine.

This guide was precise. It was concise. It worked without a hitch. Tonight was a much better night than it could have been had I followed one of the more incomplete guides floating around the interwebs.

I'm a technical user (web developer / programmer), but I was still kind of intimidated by all of this. This was my first time modding a console & I'm just so relieved that it didn't end in disaster. Thank you :]

First of all, I apologize for placing this as a new thread instead of posting it here. I know how temperatmental larrylje can get with noob questions, so forgive me if this has been discussed and I missed it...

After extensive reasearch, I have not found a solution to my problem. I just softmodded my 4.0 Wii using larrylje's awesome tutorial. I followed the tutorial to the letter, and everything works fine. My problem is that I got confused with the gamecube controller thing, and I did not get a chance to backup my nand. Can I still do that even though I already softmodded my wii, or do I have to uninstall the softmod and start over?

    4.0 SYSTEM MENU:

Those that have 3.4 and below firmware can follow this section to update to System Menu 4.0 (if you have 3.4 firmware or below and want to update to 4.1 firmware perform this step first before updating to 4.1 System Menu).

    [ REQUISITES ]
    150-250 free blocks.
    Internet connection.

Start Homebrew Channel and run Firmware Updater 4.0 and follow the on-screen instructions.

Larry will the instructions above make my 4.0 Wii a 4.1 wii? Or is it safe to download the 4.2 through the nintendo server yet. there were many complaints of people bricking there wiis, but it only seemed to have happend the first day it was released. Do i need to install patch 60 before i go from my modded 4.0 to 4.2? Thanks!~

Thanks for the reply. I already softmodded my Wii using Larry's tut and went from 4.0 to 4.1 (w/no problems). I mistakenly skipped the step where you backup your nand after installing HBC and Bootmii. I followed the rest of the tut exactly as it was written. I am just a little nervous about the fact that should I brick my Wii in the future, I may be screwed since I don't have a backup nand from my original firmware. Therefore, I wanted to know if I can still back up my nand after softmodding and use that should I inadvertently brick my Wii in the future (God forbid). Or should I just downgrade and uninstall the mod and start over.

It is fine to do a NAND backup after the softmod is installed. It will just revert back to that state if you ever restore your NAND.

    Taken from the guide itself...
