Hi All, I wonder if anyone could tell me what difference I am suppose to notice when using 5.1 instead of Pro-logic 2. I have 2 Home theatre Systems, one little Yamaha with optical and a Philips MX5800 which unfortunately has Coaxial. I have my Xbox 360 hooked up to the Yamaha because of the Optical and it sounds o.k but when I changed it over to the more powerful Philips one and listen through Pro-logic 2 quite honestly it sounds better. When Music is playing during a game Pro-logic is much nicer, although speech is not as clear with it as the Yamaha but not a huge difference. Is this because the Philips is a better system or what? People have told me 5.1 should be more clearer, but I cannot notice anything really. When playing games everything sounds like its in surround on both Systems. I'm sure this is a stupid question, I'm sorry but have no idea Regards ohmss
Dolby Digital 5.1 and Pro-logic II can offer the same surround sound experience if the PL-II encoding and decoding is done properly. Pro-logic II creates 5.1 surround sound out of analog stereo connections. If the source audio stream contains a 5.1 Dolbly Digital mix like DVD and X-Box game sound tracks it is possible to recreate all 6 channels via the stereo connections. Why? Becasue the infomation for the other audio channels are embedded or multi-plexed, inaudibly, in to the Left and Right audio channels! So to answer your question your not suppose to hear any differences at all. But if you feel the PL-II presentation sounds better its probably because your Philips is a better receiver across the board. For more info...
