I'm not holding out much hope however... I have a Asus AV8 motherboard with an Sound Blaster Audigy ZS sound card. Running Windows XP SP3. I built my system about 5 years ago and can't remember if I had trouble intially getting the sound to work, but it worked great. I was using Creative's 7.1 channel speakers. A few days ago, I reformatted the hard drive and now I can't get the sound working. The only difference in the machine is that I added a Hauppage WinTV card and I no longer have those speakers. I have yet to take the WinTv card out to see if it is somehow conflicting but I am not sure why it would. (I probably will remove it next since it doesn't pick up digital signals so it's pretty much worthless.) I need advanced troubleshooting. I have checked all the basic things. I don't need "maybe the mute button is checked" or similar. The speakers are plugged in. The newest drivers are installed. I have run Creative's diagnostic software that came with the card there doesn't seem to be any problems with the card. I just can't get any sound. My mobo has onboard sound. Could this be a conflict? There are no cables running from the sound card to the DVD drives, but documentation indicates i don't need any. I've tested with three different speaker sets (2.1) and headphones. If you are able to help solve this problem I will send you $5 via paypal. I've worked on it for hours and am stumped and beyond frustrated.
OK sorry I think I finally figured it out. I decided to give up and uninstall Sound Blaster and use the on board sound. So that's what I did. However, it wasn't working either. Realized the ASUS on board drivers weren't installed. Installed those and now I get sound. I'm going to put the SB Audigy back in and see what happens... Saved myself $5~
i need $5 but i dont always give the best advice.usually if sounds not working and its not the sound card or the speakers then its the drivers. actually scrap $5.I'd rather have a cold beer delivered to my house during a heatwave.
