My burner will not read any type of dvd -/+ RW. It reads cd-r..it plays discs/dvd but whenever I insert a a dvd-r disc it wont recognize. This is why I cant burn after ripping using shrin. I have updated the firmware and it is brand new do to the fact that my last burner did the same and I thought it was broke. It is an NEC dvd-rw 2510 dual layer. It used to work fine and one day it just stopped reading dvd-r. ANy help will be greatly appreciated and I will 100% honour my offer in the subject to anyone that can remedy this. Thanks for your time

Well you'll have to start over, but try using Shrink w/ DVD Decrypter.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

You can do a quick test with DVD Decrypter doing a dvd-5. Just open decrypter -> click mode -> select ISO Read R, then once that is done choose ISO Write W

    Or...
    1) Open Shrink 3.2 , open disc
    2) Click "backup!"
    3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter".
    4) Click ok

Try this, if it works then your problem is with Nero.

I am not sure that it is with nero because even when not attempting to rip...like when I just pop a dvd-r into the drive it is not recognized.

Can you detect/read/rip a normal dvd with your drive? Also, my drives won't recognize a coaster :)

Lol. I have a Pioneer 107 which refuses to recognise (+)recordable discs, although it works fine with (-)recordable discs. It used to record to (+) media without a problem till I changed the type of discs I used. Since then it has never recorded to a (+) disc. No-one has ever offered me any answer to that problem either. I have been given many ideas for solving the problem (DMA,cables, forced registry entries, different media, updating firmware, updating software, aspii layers, rolling back drivers, updating drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling software etc...) but none have ever worked! I just put up with it!!
It might just be a fault with the drive and it would be worth going back to manufacturer seeing as its a new drive and still under warranty, to see if they get it to work!

Did you try formating or puting the drive in another working computer? This would greatly narrow it down and personaly I don't think you should have to put up with things.

Carpki sounds like exactly the same problem that I have. I was burning memorex dvd-r all the time with no problem then I decided to try Ritek 8x dvd-r and there is where my problem started. Now I cant write to even the memorex again. No dvd-r seems to be recognized. I cant say that I understand why this is the case.....oh well, back to the store I go for a new drive.

Tried it in a different computer!!!!!!! Jeez!! I built a new one and it is exactly the same...lol.. The only thing not new about the computer was the monitor..lol... I have also tried it in a friends computer with exactly the same result. At the end of the day however it still works!! (Albeit only to (-) media) and the discs play on all my dvd players.. so I don't have quite so much to complain about..lol..

Cyan!! I would definately try to change it.. If they do get it to work then perhaps they can give you the advice you need... if its broken then you get a new one without the stress of spending days trying to get it to work!

    Hi,
Maybe you bought corrupted DVD - R's, because I don't see any problem with Ritek. Can your burner read -R and +R?

I use G04's. I can use any brand of - discs without a problem. It will not write to + discs regardless of who the manufacturer is!!

    Hi,
Maybe your DVD burner doesn't support +R, and it only supports -R. Can we have the computer specs?

    Regards,

Its a Pioneer 107 +/- rewriter. It supports + media cause it used to burn to them! My computer specs are probably a bit irrelevant as I have tried it in several computers always with the same result. At the end of the day it quite happily burns (-)media, which play on my standalones, therefore I'm a happy bunny..lol... But thanks for the offer of help :)

I have an nec 2510a and seem to recall somewhere that you had to update firmware for the G05. What frimware is on it now. Should be 2.06 or 2.16. for the G05. I think not possitive.
