Has anyone had any trouble with Sony 50gb BD-R DL ver 1.1 recordable disc's. I made 2 backups using DVDFAB 6.06 and burned with IMGBURN with no problems. Discs play fine in my computer drive but won't play in my stand alone player which is a Samsung BD-P1590. I get an error on screen saying it can't play disc. OK, so I updated firmware from 1.01 to the latest version 2.03. Update installed fine but still get an error that it can't play disc. Knowing Sony, could they be putting some kind of DRM on their recordable disc's. Haven't used any different brand of disc of the 50gb. Been using 25gb Verbatims on some other backups and they play great in both the computer and stand alone.

I just bought 10 of these disc you make mention of. SONY 50GB BD-R DL imports from JAPAN. They match the same spec as yours. I paid $10.00 a disc and hope once I use them that I don't run into this issue. I decided in near future to make a another purchase and get a couple of 3PKS of the SONY 50GB BD-RE DL (rewriteables)as these will save me some hit or miss issues that come about with attempting successful BLU-RAY back ups. With your issue, I'm thinking something didn't jive during the transcoding process...with image burn.

Don't feel bad I chewed through like 20 25GB BD-R and bought another $70.00 25pk spindle of the same disc before I realized 25GB BD-R are essentially useless for BLU-RAY back ups unless you plan to convert BLU-RAY to MKV or plan to compress BLU-RAY which plays back like sh*t. The main title in my trials revealed that 25GB is too small on average to even complete a BLU-RAY main movie back up. DVDFAB BLU-RAY to BLU-RAY is great program but still a work in progress as their recent software update now includes a BLU-RAY compression option. This is a software that I plan on purchasing real soon. I also want to get one of the better but cheaper dedicated single disc inkjet CD/DVD printers.

Update-- Received the 2 Verbatim 50gb disc's today. They are 2x BD-R DL recordable format version 1.2. I burned the same movie files, used DvdFab Blu-ray to Blu-ray version 6.07 and ImgBurn version 2.4.4.0 to burn to disc. Same process that was used with the Sony 50gb DL disc's. The Sony disc's would play in the computer drive but not my Samsung stand alone player which has up to date firmware. Made backups to the Verbatims DL and have no problems playing movie's in both the computer drive or the standalone. Go Figure. As far as I'm concerned I won't be buying anymore Sony disc's. When I bought them (sony) they were $19.95 at Newegg. The Verbatims are $21.99 each at Newegg. A little pricey. N2DVD, hope you have better luck than I did. By the way, the movies I used to backup were Easy Virtue and Gladiator

Interesting.....I did get a great deal and I just hope the disc work in my SONY BX1 BD PLAYER (once I complete my back ups). I will not know for some time as I am going to continue my trial and error phase using 50GB BD-RE DL As we both know BLU-RAY 50GB disc are still really expensive. I have a question, did you back up your titles in H.264 format or mpeg2? Also my BD player requires you enable a special BD hybrid setting to playback BD back-up disc. Upon doing a check of my disc source and manufacture using a program called DVD identifier. These imported disc were made by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.LTD. Also the product stamp date is December 2005. The issue here may be the disc version which like your SONY's the disc I have are version 1. I've only had to do 1 firmware update on my BD-player hope that covered any playback kinks.

I ripped movie only and used default settigs on both programs. Also my Samsung player does'nt have any extra settings like you mentioned. Backups play just like a regular blu-ray disc.

@ markw3, Hey ordered the SONY BD-RE DL (REWRITABLE)this evening (2) 3 PACKS $49.00 each pk. This should level the playing field and as I stated before and leave room correctable user error. I also got my hands on the nearly impossible to find yet purchase EPSON Artisan 50. Prints on DVD/CD. Oh and a heads up. Merritline.com has the 10 pk of VERBATIM BD-RE 25GB @ $59.99.

You might want to check Newegg.com. They have Verbatim 25gb 4x BD-R's in a 10 pack for $34.99, and singles for $5.99

Nah....I have a 25pk of 25GB BD-R. I paid $70.00's for the spindle (runtechmedia.com). But they're somewhat useless as I am not interested in converting to MKV or playing the how big is the BLU-RAY main movie guessing game and hoping it might fit a 25GB BD-R. I'm interested solely in 50GB DL for a true full HD BLU-RAY end result. Thanks but the BD-R not needed. I did get the EPSON Artisan 50 HD printer locally.

This printer is highly recommended for inkjet printable DVD/CD printing and in high demand and cheap. Don't believe me? GOOGLE it. It's out of stock online everywhere in the US and it jast came out on the market in JUNE 09. BD-RE DL are dual layer 50GB rewritable media which leaves room for trial and error. I'll master the BLU-RAY back up on a BD-RE 50GB DL and back up the end result to a Inkjet printable 50 GB BD-R DL. I could then erase the BD-RE and start over on a new BLU-RAY title or save it. Get my science?;)
