Hello folks, I'm trying to assist a distant friend who is having trouble installing nero ultra edition 7. A difficult thing to do when you can't be there. He purchased the product new from Ebay, I don't know the build numbers. The original installation was apparently successful but after one use something didn't work correctly so he tried to uninstall and re-install the product. That attempt failed and I cannot say what all he did before calling me. We have now downloaded the most recent build, downloaded and run both the general clean tool and the cleantool_7. Attempts to install the most recent build results in the files extracting but nothing after that. From what he tells me the process just stops without any messages after extracting the cabs, etc. Running the cleantools again and trying to install the version from the CD he purchased appears to install, the window pops up saying the install is done and to reboot, but after reboot there is no program actually installed!! (or so I'm told) Suggestions?? I have a copy of the infotool.txt file we produced when trying to submit an online support form from nero.com but the form also appears to be inoperative. Just some ideas.... Have him do a system restore to the time before he installed Nero and then try to install it again. Make sure he has his firewall turned off along with popup blockers, anti-virus programs, etc. Once he gets it installed again, have him run the registry checker. See if you can get him to come to Afterdawn directly. It is kind of you to do this for him but I think it would be more helpful if we could talk with him directly. Try again to put in a ticket to Nero tech support. They are slow but generally respond in two or three days. http://nero.com/nero7/enu/support.php The InfoTool log would be useful here. Post the entire thing if possible.
Thanks for the response, For the benefit of others that may run into a similar situation, here's what I know. My friend with the install troubles went back to the nero site and downloaded and ran what he says were a "bunch more cleatools". I suspect among them were the driver cleantool and maybe a registry cleaner from nero?? Anyway, after going through the cleantools he then downloaded the "Full Install" option. He's on a DSL and it took about an hour so I guess he got the package meant for system admins. That install worked and he is up and running now.
