Hello everyone! Hope I'm in the right place. We just got a new lcd hdtv and I'm trying to figure out what setting to put it on. It supports both 1080i and 720p, so which one should I use? Is one better/clearer than the other?

    Thank you!

Setting the TV to 720 is better for dvds while seting the TV to 1080i is better for HD-DVD and Blu Ray. Set the TV to what looks best to your eyes and closest matches the source

720p for your ps3 because the ps3 does not upscale to 1080i like the 360 . most ps3 games run in 720p not 1080i and if you use 1080i for you default setting on ps3 your games will downscale to 480p

I am unaware of the differneces in setting up game consoles but you should choose the resolution that is closest to the native resolution of your flatscreen panel.
ie:- if the sets native resolution is 1366 x 768 then you should choose 720P because 1080i would be scaled down by the TV whereas 720P will only be slightly scaled up.
The only way to prevent the TV scaling the image to match the pixels would be to supply it with a 1366 x 768 resolution source such as might be possible from a PC gfx card. (but not necesarily possible)
