I know how to capture video from 8mm tapes to my computer using windows movie maker. But now i would like to put the video on a DVD. My question is why the video quality is lower once i capture the video to my computer.
I picked the highest settings possible. (.avi i think) The video size was about 8gb but the quality was lower than expected. Is there a better way.
I'm using a firewire and a sony digital 8 camcorder.

AVI files most always do not look that great on a PC.

DV-AVI is the best quality you can get from the camcorder. As Pfloyd said, you don't get the best looking picture on a computer, but with the newer monitors, it is getting better.
