Right i have a fairly new liteon 167t with the speed hack firmware. I was burning 8x on the fly perfectly but today it wont do it anymore. I can only get 4x out of it.
Is it possible to burn the rom out by going too fast?

What "speed hack" firmware are you referring to? The 167T is rated for 16X out of the box which happens to be the maximum safe rotational speed for DVD media.

What burner are you using? What firmware version?

What brand/type media are you using?

    System specs?

Do you have a link to that particular firmware hack? I'm very interested as to what exactly it does.

Have you checked the DMA settings for your drives?

You mentioned the first 100 burned fine, are you using a different lot or brand of media than before?

Hmmm, what's the "Current Transfer Mode" listed as in Device Manager?

You might want to try reflashing to the original firmware to see if that doesn't improve things.
