Hi its my first time here. I just bought some Ritek 8X DVD+R Media from Meritline.I have a Pioneer A07,and a TDK indidvd 12x burner.I haven't opened the TDK burner yet. Iused the A07 burner with the 8x Ritek media but it wrote at 8x speed. Iknow that probably need firmware, but I want to know what burners support and write at 8x with the Ritek media.

Check the various drive manufacturer's websites for approved media.

Well I did that not that much luck there.Plextor states that their is a laser problem with Ritek media and until Ritek straightens it out it will only write up to 4x.TDK says it should(now thats reassuring).NEC says yes. Pioneer I need the firmware.I guess I'll chack SONY and Lite-on next. Please if anybody has any info HELP. I'm getting ready to upgrade. Ihave the parts and I'm scared to open them for fear they won't work. You know I may have to return it.

I've the Plextor PX-708A and it will write @ 8X to Ritek G04 4X with fine results and a very fine member here, GrandpaBW, has two 708's and recently posted that they burn wonderfully with the Ritek 8X media.

Why are you not wanting to update the firmware for your Pioneer A07? The A07 is a perfectly fine burner and since you've already used it I'd suggest upgrading the firmware before you go out and buy another burner, but it's your money and time :)

Just about any burner you buy is going to ship with an outdated firmware and an update is going to be extremely beneficial towards media compatibility especially with the newer 8X rated media so judging a drive's performance while it's running an old firmware is misleading especially when the drive manufacturer recommends the firmware update.
