I am very new to the gamecube, in fact i just got a used platinum. I want a mod chip as my PS2's i use swap disks. I read that you cant mod the platinum GC is that true? also i keep reading how its a pain to backup the games, how you basicly need to d/l from you GC using your pc or use a mod chip with usb to transfer it over to the pc is that correct? also i have been lookin at the Xeno GC Modchip (wierless install) is that a good mod chip that will work with all versions of the GC? Does it do direct booting & boot most backup games?

    Trigga71:

    - No, it is not true that you can't mod the platinum GC, you can indeed mod it just like the black or indigo GC.

    - No, you don't necessarily have to back up games yourself via LAN/PSO stream, although you can if you want. It is possible to find backup ISO's online and just work like that.

    - Yes, XenoGC is a good modchip that supports direct boot and will handle all backup games. Also cheaper than the ViperGC.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe there are any gamecubes that are unchippable.

You can identify your version by looking at the cube's motherboard and comparing it to these diagrams.

You should either have A or B, which are apparently the same, or C.

thanks for the answers, i went ahead and got the qoob pro and full dvd case. I love the idea of the Xeno GC but it seems that it is more risky to solder like that than it is with wires.

Also brucedlx said i dont have to use LAN or PSO to backup games, but he didnt say i could put them in my dvd drive and copy them like that. Could i do that or does it have to be LAN/PSO or D/L from sites?

Only way to get backups is LAN/PSO and download.

Nope, no backward burning necessary. If you are able to create an image file of the disc, via BBA/PSO or USB thru the Viper Extreme, all ya gotta do then is burn it.
