I'm about to mod my PSTwo v12 with a modbo 4.0. I've soldered before but never with points this small. I've read that I should be using 30AWG Kynar for everything but the power and ground which I should use 24AWG with. 1. I've got some wire, but I don't know what gauge it is, is there any way to figure it out? 2. What diameter solder should I use? What I have is 1mm. 3. Where should I place the modchip on the board? 4. Does anyone have a picture of a clean install with good wire management?
First thing is to choose a flat spot on the MB. Laying each of your wires to be soldered flat against the board. Tin all wires prior to soldering in place. This will make for easy solder flow to the part and wires to be soldered. The V12 PS2 will require a laser fix. Use a NeoFix XIV or equivilant to limit the current going to your laser coils. Google the fix for a diagram and vendors for the NeoFix or similar chip. 30 AWG kynar wire is best to use. The wire should be no larger than the solder points on the bios section of the MB. If it is, you risk shorts. Power and Ground wires should be as short as possible. When creating a good ground connection, I use a multimeter to find a ground plane, scrape the solder mask off and solder the chip directly to the MB. Usually for experienced solder tards but a short wire will work. Your solder size should be just fine. Remember to use a little flux for best solder joint results. Hope that helps ya!
