    Hi,
I’ve got a few basic questions about the Starview 3 box.
After trying to update the Starview 3 box myself and finding out I had “broken box” I had a replacement which was pre installed with the software. The system info is..

    API Ver: 4.51e_E
    Boot Ver:7.0
    9.Jul.2007.

    1) When I was trying to install on the 1st box I was using GTROM_Super 705e. I have been told that this is an original Starview 3 box. Looking on the web it appears that I have not got the latest version and if it’s a Starview 3 box I should use 7.05e. Can Starview 3 run on 4.51e or have I got a Box and not a Super box .. Is there much difference between 4.51e and 7.05e?

    2) Some of the channels show up in the EPG but have a no channel name.. e.g. TV7107 is Discovery Turbo. I know I can change the description but is there any reason why some have names and others do not?

    3) I have loads of blank channels and want to remove the ones I don’t want… e.g. TV7114, TV1, TV2, DL Samsung 2, LL PACE2. I know how to delete them but are these just spare ones that are not broadcasting or are they channels that have not been scanned correctly and I should keep them?

    4) If I delete and rename any channels will an update to the box..like 7.05e, wipe out all the changes?

    5) I use the TV output connection on the back of the box as I use a second TV upstairs.. but the picture on this is nowhere near as good as it was on the same output of the NTL box. Lots of wavey lines going across the screen.. anyone else get this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can answer your queries, but it looks like you have The Box and not The Super version. Does it say "The Box" on the front of the receiver?

BTW if it is the box DO NOT put 7.05 on it.

Not at home at the moment but I'm sure it says "The Box". So I take it it's not the Super Box. I can definatly take it back!! Is it worth changing?

Not really The Box should be fine on 4.51, the channels named TV*** can be renamed as you said and blank channels deleted. Although some channels you think are blank may in fact not be, e.g. BBC3 & 4 come on after 7PM. The Events or PPV channels are blank until there is something broadcast.

In relation to you using the loop out connection, that may be your problem if extending the signal to another room. Why not split the direct feed and use a booster if required.

Ok thanks for the info... So if I have the relevant software on Starview 2 it will still auto update the code? I'm trying to work out the difference between the two and I've read that they brought out the Starview 3 as there were so many clones of Starview 2? Is the Menu/Interface/picture quality any different?

Slightly but not enough to merit a swap in my opinion. Although the choice is your's at the end of the day.
