I would just like to have some suggestions on a recorder. The main reason I want one is to just copy previously recodered movies and/or shows from my DVR and then put them on my computer. Though I do not know if it is possible but also OnDemand movies as well. So I really just want is the best video/audio quality for the best price. If you could help me out that would be great. Thanks!
Some of the programs you mention may contain copy protection. You might check this a chose a unit that will fit your needs
ok.dont really want to do that if it is copy protected. but for things that i already own, it is legal to back them up right? so from what i have found the ilo dvdR04 seems like the best bet, but i cant find them anywhere except for one on eBay for $230. Walmart is all sound out on clearance. so do you or anyone else know of a different recorder that will do the job
The ilo is a 'slimmed down' version of the LiteOn .. and I believe that it's the LVW5001 not the LVW5005
ilo is a walMart Brand. the 04 series is discontinued There may be some at some stores The ones on ebay, I would feel are overpriced for what you want If a unit similar to the 04 Is what you want. The LiteOn 5005x has the same look as the 04, in fact many say is an 04 [no hack]. The 04 series was made by LiteOn
yea from what i understand, a lot of people are having proplems backing up dvds or vhs that have copy protection. so i just wanted to really skip all of that mess and get what u call a [hack] version. from what ive seen so far is a dvdr04, lvw5005, and i saw something about a 5007 but im not too sure about that one. i'll look around a bit about the one catfreak said, LVW5001, and see what that says.
I have two 'hacked' LiteOn LVW5005 recorders (one is almost 3 years old and the other is almost 2) no problems other than normal wear-and-tear ... the newer units have to downgrade firmware to apply hacks though ... There IS tons of on-line support available
Yea, thats good if i happen to get one that needs a downgrade. so far what ive found to be for sure options are the ilo DVDR04, Gateway AR-230, and LiteOn LVW5001 & LVW5005. I also saw that all the 5000 series are suppose to be hackable, but that was only one place. And Im guessing that was written before the 5005x. Does anyone know about the whole 5000 series thing?
[ khAos64 ] My privious comment "Some of the programs you mention may contain copy protection. You might check this a chose a unit that will fit your needs" Your quote "ok.dont really want to do that if it is copy protected. but for things that i already own," -------------------------------------------- You need to decide what yiu are going to do and the equipment needed
I did decided. I didnt know those types of programs that I listed were copy protected and I dont want to go and mess with that and get into unnecessary trouble when i have a DVR. But I have also seen that a lot of people have had trouble with just VHS to DVD and DVD backups. So I figured it would be just easier to get Liteon 5001/5005 or clone so that way I wouldnt have those problems.
won't most DVRs record anything from cable or sat ? My TiVo always had but i think since you pay for that sevice you own the programing.....but owning a commercial DVD won't allow for copies so thats weird. i got my TiVo when $100 got me a lifetime service, NOW they will give you a cheap unit but charge $17 a month, you can get basic satilite for $25 and most do offer a free DVR upgrade and charge $5 more a month, that i garuntee will copy everything, all programming or they wouldn't use it as a selling point.
[ DaveTV ] I think most would agree with a lot of your points. But!!! You are fighting the problem While most, not all, programs can be copied to the DVR etc. HDD. They may be restricted by CP to be copied to a disk, or recorded to a DVD. Unless you have a Non Compliant recorder, and they are NOW very hard to find especially with HDD. When you say you paid for it so you should be able to copy it. The Fair Use Section of The Law is on your side. Now find a unit that will do that, it's getting harder and harder. Good Luck
