[22:06] <DxS> and when did the 2nd rev start showing up?
[22:06] <|3rt> its a bumhole that doesnt open

[22:06] * zerowarz is now known as ZeroWarz
    [22:06] <+c4eva> no key output!

The way it looks right now, Lite-ONs showing up from September aren't giving up the key. If you have just purchased a new 360, please post any details if you aren't able to dump the key.

Hmm, is anyone in the UK and getting these drives yet? i only ask as my RROD box is with MS right now, and i reckon they'll be putting a new drive in it, so is this out in the wild at the repair center in Frankfurt yet?? If so what if someone with the technical knowhow were to open the drive, desolder the R707 point and then attempt to dump the key??

    Cheers!

    Not a problem. :)

Possibly, I was reading the thread over at XS and a guy from the UK posted he had just bought a brand new Elite and was having an issue. Not for sure about drives from the repair center. The previous method for the 83850C is not like the method for the 74850C. No probe or soldering is involved. What we will have to do is wait for a response from the firmware team. I've read they are decaping and examining one of these new 83850C drives to see what Microsoft has done. I'm guessing possibly a new encryption but only time will tell. The way it looks like right now, the only way to distinguish between 83850C Lite-ONs that can be dumped and can't be dumped is the manufacture date of the drive [besides not being able to get the key :p]. Looks like August 2009 and up are having the problem. July 2009 and older are able to be dumped.

So would i be better off flashing the benq i have with me than the repair thats blatantly gonna have the new unflashable drive in it?

So the console that you need to send in has a BenQ? More than likely they are going to replace the drive and put a new Lite-ON. Whether it is going to be the new 83850C, I'm not for sure. I have faith the team will get this new drive figured out and the DVDkey will be dumpable.

Reading over at XS, looks like there is a new firmware revision: 93450C

The guy should be putting up pics sometime soon. It was only a matter of time before MS was going to do something after the 83850C was hacked. These August 2009 drives that aren't able to be dumped are probably mislabeled 93450C drives.

No no, what i was saying is i have an elite in for RROD repair atm, and i have a Benq elite here as well (originally my backup console) now i'm thinking that i should just flash my backup console as the repaired one will prolly come back from MS with he new unhackable drive, what do you think?

well, just opened up all three consoles, and my findings are just plain odd. two were the 7 series lite-ons, the third was a benq. not sure why they werent replaced with at least the flashable 8 series lite-ons; but im not going to complain.

hmm. starting to wonder if this guy with the 93450C version is just blowing smoke or not. Microsoft is just making us paranoid as all hell. Makes since that the RROD was purposely imposed as previously modded systems would come back with a newer supposedly unhackable drive. Just glad someone is on top of this.

I doubt it is just "blowing smoke"

They wouldn't make just one of the drives and hope it got into the hands of a modder.

well we'll see what they are going to send out again, i have 2 more going into repair tomorrow, and one of my three i just got back, is going back already. went to test it before i attempted to flash it, and it was giving me an e65 error. thinking MS just didnt plug one of the cables in the back of the drive, i took it apart and noticed it was fine. attempted to dump the firmware and said no firmware found, or some stupid error like that in JF. so had to call apu back up and get it RMA'd again. hopefully this time they actually fix it.

I was talking about the 93850c not the 83850c v2. I just think people are being a little overly paranoid, although I am one of those people, constantly trolling #fw to wait for a cure. For I will have one coming in tommorow from MS and I will let people know what it is when it arives.
