Hi guys, i checked the stickies and tried search, to no avail, so here it is: Im working on a semi-pro music workstation, with which i have to be able to do some video editing and stuff too. So, im on a 64-bit vista, and im trying to get all common video files to work, without cluttering the system with unneccesary codecs and whatnot. So, what i have done is: (on a clean fully updated install): 1. Installed the newest matroska splitter 2. Installed the newest FFDSHOW both are configured properly. Im using WMP11 to play the files. (Please note, this is my choice for media player, dont suggest alternatives. I have had a it all working on a different setup, so the problem is not WMP. Thanks.) Now, i can play most all files, but the exception is .mp4 files. WMP just abruptly shows a warning box that says the file cant be played. I tried reinstalling both the splitter & ffdshow, didnt help. The strange thing is, they render in GSpot. So, any ideas would be appriciated aso to why they dont play properly. The files are ok, the needed splitters & stuff is in place, Gspot renders it properly. The only clue as to what is wrong that i have come accross is this: Shouldnt the route for both video and audio start with the splitter? Or am i missing something here? I'll gladly provide more info if any of you guys have an idea. Thanks a lot in advance.
Hi again, i tried another mp4 splitter, namely Gabest, after i uninstalled Haali media splitter. Now i guess Gspot is showing a correct route for both video and audio, and it renders it fine, but still, no luck in WMP. It's pretty weird.
I should propably also add that everything else (from avi to xvid to you name it) plays fine in WMP. The only problem is Mp4.
Some progress: After i renamed the file extension to .avi, it plays back fine. Of course i could just ingnore it and watch the damn video, but i want to get to the bottom of this. So, anyone agree that it sounds like a registry issue, WMP not being able to use FFDshow for mp4? And moreso, is there anyone around who could maybe shed some light on how the registry works regarding these extensions?
