hi! i want to purchase the philips dvdr985 but i saw in it spec that it record onto dvd+r.i don't saw dvd players that can read from dvd+r. dvd player that can read from dvd-r can read also from dvd+r? what disk format is the most popular within dvd players? thank you very much!

like herbsman said -r is the most compatible with dvd players you may also wnat to consider that if you have a ps2 -r will work on all version but +r will only work on version 4-7 and v4 is still not %100
dvd+r is only slightly more advanced than dvd0-r so there really just is no point in wasting money buying dvd+r disc's imo! I mean dvd-r are expected what?? 90,000,000 sales wheras dvd+r are expected 13,000,000 a lot but nothing to 90,000,000. That was 2002, i dunno what the figure projection is for this year!
I know I am a NEWBIE and I hope this message doesn't seem to dumb, but I have been told the only dumb question is one not asked. I was looking for information on which DVD media format to use for burning PS/2 games. I used the search and it brought me to this thread. It looks like it has pretty well answered my question in that I should use -r. The PS/2 is a V4 so I should be able to use +r's although you say it is not 100% guarenteed. My burner is the Sony DRU-500a which is a dual format. I tried using -r's when I first bought it and never got one to work for video or data. I tried 5 different DVD's with different software and they would all error out about 1/2 way through the burn process. Price wise the -r and +r are almost identical when I buy them. Although I am seeing the +r's on sale alot more often, with more of them on the shelves at the store. I've been able to pick up a 50 pack at my local best buy of Fuji DVD +r media for about $69. Is it possible I just had bad media with the -r's that I had bought earlier??? Is there a specific brand anyone recommends that works best for them??? Should I risk the cash and attempt the -r's again??? I've had great luck with the +r's for data backup as well as movie backups. Thanks for any suggestions, and please go easy on me.
