Hello everyone, I am new to these forums, so I would like to apologize in advance in case I do or say something that is not appropriate. I recently purchased an extra Xbox (original) with the purpose of softmodding it to play and have extra options...and ultimately install UnleashX on it. I have been reading over and over several tutorials about installing the softmod. I can safely say I have the correct version of MechAssault, as well as Spliter Cell. Both are NTSC. Now here is the thing...on the tutorials in this site, I am told to download a softmod package, which I have. I have downloaded two to be exact: the SID 4.0 NKNAVE and another one called Softmod Install Deluxe 5.0. The tutorials I have read either give an earlier version or does not specify. Which is best to use and why? During the softmod process, there is a part in which I have to backup my eeprom and MS DASH, if I recall. One tutorial says to back it up on a memory unit, while others dont. Does the softmod tutorial do this, or must I do extra steps...if so, in which part? Near the end, it says I must remove the CD by powering on, eject, take out CD, eject, and press power off. Yet in another tutorial, it says that I must simply Power on with small button, take out cd, close tray and let it do the rest. Which one??? And when in particular? Also, I want to install Xbox Media Center. I found this tutorial on how to do it as a dash, but what is best...this method or choosing it as an application? Here is the link: http://www.productwiki.com/microsof...-xbox-to-xbox-media-center-in-30-minutes.html I really want to do this, but even though the tutorials I've read have been great (most have been from here), there are things not explained in all of them, which one helps explain and vice versa. So any help would be appreciated before I gamble. I am confident in doing this, as I have done the PSP without any problems. Of course, the PSP is not the same as an Xbox, but still...
well personally i used the 5.0 deluxe installer and if you installed softmod/hacked dash then the last steps don't matter but anyways i'll teach you how to install the 5.0 installer deluxe version. first get onto the softmod menu then backup your eeprom then your ms. then go down to dual installer. if you want the ms dash then click on msdash/hacked dash. then if it says all requirements pass then click okay. let it do it's thing. the shadow.awdwad extension will take sometime so let it go. then it should say you must restart it and it will shut down. then press the open tray button then take out the disk then shut it off. then turn it back on again then it should boot up the menu again and ask you to press a to finish instalilng
Thanks! Ok, let's see if I understood correctly. In the Dual Boot Softmod portion, there are two options. If I choose "Hacked Dash/MS Dash", then whever I turn on the console using the power button, the softmod will appear. But if I turn on the console using the eject button, then the old Microsoft Dash screen will appear, correct? Then what is the other version for "Hacked Dash/Softmod Menu"? Also, when it tells me to shutdown for it to finalize installer, I press the power button to power off. The I press it again, and quickly press the eject button to take out the CD and press it quickly again to close the tray. Here is what I am confused...do I leave it as is so it can continue, or should I quickly press the power button to shut down the system after taking out the CD (I pressume during the part where the XBOX main logo is present) and press the button again to turn it on? Won't this damage something if I don't take out the CD in time?
Also, I just saw a video about installing Softmod 5.0 installer, and I notice that the person, after performing the eeprom and MS Dash backups, he goes to prepare a virtual C+ eprome after choosing "Hacked Dash/Softmod Menu". Why did he do this and why not choose the "Hacked Dash/MS Dash" option? Perhaps it is because he is installing EvolutionX instead of UnleashX? Or does that actually matter?
well the thing is you want to FINISH the installation not start up the game right?? if you put a game in there it starts up automatically so that's why. softmod/hacked dash is when you press the eject button, it'll go automatically to the softmod menu aka SID 5.01 or the auto deluxe installer w/e it was. but if you want it automatically go to the original dash then you can by choosing the ms dash/hacked dash
I kinda accidentally hit on "Softmod" instead of "MS Dash" option. Oh well no problem. The mod was successful. I made the complete HDD backup as stated in one of the guides listed on this website. I did not do a Virtual C, though. Was this a bad idea? I chose standard because I had no idea what Virtual C was. And since there is no guide that explicitly explains everything in detail, finding info was near impossible for me. They should really make complete guides about what is what. That would be very helpful. Now I face a new issue. When I put a regular movie DVD, the machine recognizes it, but when I hit Launch, it says "LOADING XBOX ONLINEDASH" and freezes on a black screen afterwards. I have no idea what to do here. Help!
Hmm...something interesting. I noticed that if I go to settings and change the DVD PLAYER, different things occur. I noticed that right now, it says "xboxdash.xbe". This does not work. I changed it to "xblxdash.xbe" and notice that it goes back to the original dash to play the DVD, but won't unless I have the DVD dongle thingie from the past. If I do, it reads discs. Hell, I even tried setting it to load XBMC but it goes to the program instead of just reading it. So the thing is this: is there a XBE DVD player for Unleashed X that I can use to load the movie immediately when I put a DVD and choose LOAD DVD from the UnleashX menu?
hmm i think you might be able to help me out. i dunno but before i had xbmc and other apps and emulators totalling around 90 halo 2 ran fine then after i start xbmc and stuff halo 2 freezes in the beginning. weirdd.
Hmm, that is indeed weird. I do not have Halo 2, but don't worry...you mentioned you had other games that do the same thing. What are those games and when does the problem begin? If I have one of those game, I can test them out here to see what happens.
lol im at school right now. im only 14 lol yea well starwars battle front 2 does the same, forza, like games released after 2004 or 2005 the newer versions with xbox live compatible i think cause halo 1 worked fine. im kind of thinking that it's XBMC that's causing this trouble
Eh it's a normal problem, you need to ftp into your xbox or use the file manager and delete all the files in E:/CACHE And for the DVD problem disable auto boot dvd movies in your settings and download dvd 2x. It's a program that allows you to play dvd's on your xbox without the dongle. Most versions of xbmc will play dvd's too. I just looked for you but didn't find a good download link, since every program you need is included on the auto installer deluxe disc just download it and burn it to a dvdr. http://www.aidtracker.com/
Cache is like a temporary storage place. Kinda like the pagefile.sys on your computer. Thanks about the DVD Player issue. It wasn't on auto though. I did however, set it to use DVDX v2 when I load it from the main menu. Now it works great! Though I need to do a hard reset to get out (L, R, Start, Select). I am now having issues with my skins. I place them on the E:/Skins/ directory as stated and UnleashX does see them, which is a plus. I can change and all, and I love it. But when I have one set and I turn off the unit, it goes back to the default skin. My path is correct, I think. Here is the info: Skins Path.....................Skins\ Current Skin...................[Default] No matter how many times I change it, this always appears. Could it be that the "Skins\" it's showing me somehow is for drive C instead of E? How can I change this?
i know what it is... i asked why the cache has anything to do with the game freezing. halo 2 works fine now after i deleted the cache. weird
My guess? A conflict of sorts. I just had the Xbox reboot on me while changing settings. Got me scared, but it can be anything, even a brownout. Only issue encountered. Been at it and I love it so far. Now I wanna do this...take a 80GB HDD and use it to replace the stock HDD on the Xbox. However, I want to make it to only have the MS Dash and eeprom. I have backup of those, so no problem. I've read guides around that told me what to do, but like the other guides, it confuses me. For example, if I do this and do the entire process, must my Xbox be modified (have Unleash on it, for example) in order for the HDD to work properly? Or can I use the regular MS Dash?
well first of all why would you want 80gbs for the normal dash? lol 10gbs is enough. i have a 40gb hdd and i used my backup cd of hdm 1.9 and hotswapped it with my comp and locked it onto the hard drive. then at the softmod menu,i checked remove softmod and when i boot up, takes me to the original dash. i left it like that just in case.. but if you really know how to softmod and stuff it's pretty self explanatory
I'm sure that your ini file or whatever file it uses to load all the prefrences when the xbox starts isn't saving the correct information. I know it does the same thing with avalaunch and the led color option. The way to fix this is to ftp into your xbox, grab your config file and change the code then replace that file on your xbox with your modified one. I know it seems like a little bit of work, i've had to do it more than enough. My guess is that the cache gets messed up sometimes like your internet browser might get a stale cookie. The easiest way to fix that is to delete it and renew the cookie. Some xbox's are just picky. I've never had to delete my cache on my main xbox but this was a reoccuring problem on some xbox's i've modded. You don't know how many calls i recieved from iraq about this stupid problem. Keep in mind that the x: y: z: drives are temp folders too. Usually if you're having a problem like that the easiest solution is to delete everything in E:/CACHE and everything in x: y: z: and reload. Hope this helps you guys
That's the thing...I've tried, and get this: when I change my skin and the location of the skin and save everything, it asks to reset my Xbox. Ok, no problem. I hit the power button and power it on again, only to see the same default blue skin. Now here is the weird part. When I go to settings, the settings ARE SAVED! The ones I put before resetting! How can it save correctly and still boot the default skin?! Also, what is "Virtual C + eeprom" option when you choose "DUAL BOOT"?
Just try to do it through ftp and if that doesn't work you can buy the gun and i'll buy the bullets. I wouldn't know about the dual boot. It's pointless to have a dual boot now-a-days. My xbox was modded with the original sid and audio exploit so that tells you how long ago i modded it. Xbox live is way better on the 360 and it's really pointless for the original xbox. If you want to play games online you can play them through system link at www.xbconnect.com
No bullets necessary...I think I found the solution! First, the layout of the Config.xml file: In the original version, you simply see the following: <Skin Path="E:\Skins"></Skin> This is what happens when you simply set the path: <Skin Path="E:\Skins\GreenHeaven-XBNormUK"></Skin> Please notice that the entire path is encapsulated between the brackets, or simply <>. The thing is, even with this format, it will continue to show the default blue skin, even when you reboot. Then how to change a skin and make it stay there even after you reboot? Here is what I think is the correct way to install a skin: <Skin Path="E:\Skins">GreenHeaven-XBNormUK</Skin> Notice that between <> the normal path is listed. However, notice how GreenHeaven-XBNormUK is between > and <. Like this, the Xbox boots to the skin chosen and NOT to the default skin. I did this not by editing it via a PC, but when you choose a skin, there was an option START/A and A to save. I pressed A twice, then when back and chose the same skin but this time I pressed START and A simultaneously. Dunno what I did exactly, but it worked! Dunno why, but hey, I'm happy!
