I've been using ACE Mega CodecS Pack 6.03, with professional install for the longest time...Recently I pinpointed an iTunes crash on launch that occurs with this codec pack installed.... I've read a couple threads of ppl having the exact same problem...But no solutions... I going to make a an image of my HD, and try the Klite pack for a change as a workaround...I need iTunes running for my ipod, and a decent collection of codecs for transcoding.... Any ideas here?
Ace Mega Codecs pack contains way too many codecs/decoders/encoders in my opinion. I prefer the K-Lite Mega Codec pack. It doesn't contain as much as Ace, but still has some of the best stuff. The K-Lite Mega version contains Quicktime too, if you want. For more information: http://www.codecguide.com/features_mega.htm If you do plan to install K-Lite Mega codec pack, I would uninstall Ace Mega Codec pack, run a registry cleaner to remove invalid entries/obsolete paths...
I actually did switch to K-Lite Mega Pack with a clean XP install, and it seems to be conflict free with iTunes... What profile setting do you use for Klite Mega Pack? There is like 6 different flavours....I used "professional" I think...And deselected some Quicktime Alternative function....I basically want the ability to watch the greatest range of video files, and still be conflict free...I do alot of transcoding too....
I chose the custom route where you can select which encoders/decoders I wanted... I think the professional profile contains a wee bit too much, since there aren't a lot of media files that are encoded by a certain encoder, i.e. : On2
hmm.. this is right? im gunna try it. i read many places saying this was because the new quicktime was to be blamed and they said install the old quicktime and then the new one which didnt work. thanks, ill try this.
