Have had my Acer Travelmate laptop for 12 months now. When turning it on i expected to log in as usual but the screen is just black with absolutely nothing happening. I tried again but this time pressing F2 for setup but it asks me for a phoenix bios setup password. I have tried the usual PHOENIX, phoenix, CMOS & bios but nothing happens. Can anyone help me please as i work on this laptop and without it i am knackered. Thanks in advance

some body has entered a password into your cmos if it wasnt you try to contact the person who you purchased it from or take it to a local computer repairer to have your cmos cleared however that wouldnt be the reason it wont load the os you must have a hardware problem or a corrupt os (operating system) you could try F8 just before windows would normaly load then select last good configeration (asuming you have XP)

Tried using F8 and got to the area where i could select last good configuration point but it wont log into the os (xp)just leaves a blank screen.

    try vga mode
    sorry wasn't thinking
if your vga settings are incorrect it can stop you seeing anything on your screen
starting in vga mode will help by starting in basic configuration

however it could be you have inadvertently switched the laptop to external moniter
you can switch back by holding the fn button and pressing f5
(maybe diffent f button on acer ) if the first one does nothing try again it runs through three options laptop, laptop and monitor, and monitor
