hey recently my computer needed a fesh install of windows xp home edition and i lost my recovery disk that i needed to install it so a computer person gave me a stand alone windows xp and i installed windows off that and i used my microsoft key that came with the computer now its telling me to activate windows xp, i just wanted to know if this was legal or illegal thing to do. since i used my own microsoft cd key that came with the computter i purchased 2 years ago. also when i click active windows xp it says it cannot connect to the internet which is already connected, is there anyway of activating it without the activation wizard.
but that microsoft key was purchased with a recovery disk when i bought my computer and i used my microsoft key with a different disk of windows xp
I see where you're coming from, but that doesn't really matter! All Microsoft needs to know to get you activated again, is your installation key.
@ricky91 I had to use my Windows Install Disc to re-install in a Dell of a friend of mine. I re-installed with my disc and his key. Activated it and to this day no problems!
i got 20 days to activate it and it won't connect to the activation wizard and i dont wanna call them
google it, an you might find the answer, (i did)...but yeah, i'll tell you how when i get home today, so just reply back , if you did find a way to activate it
Well, incase you do end up getting locked out from your windows and all you can access is the windows activation wizard... Somewhere within the wizard is a link to the Microsoft web page. Click it and an internet browser window will come up for the microsoft page. Go to the URL and type in... C:\documents and settings\your computer name\my documents it will then open up that folder and from there you can navigate to anything in your comp and will still have full control of it. good luck
