I have just installed DVD Shrink 3.1 and the latest version of DVD Decrypter. When I open up DVD shrink and click on open disk, it shows the DVD player and the name of the movie I want to back up. But when I hit OK, an error comes up saying "failed to initialize ASPI". I followed the instructions from the forum and installed Adaptec ASPI 4.71.2 drivers. It loaded the files in the correct place, but I'm still getting the same error message. Adaptec ASPI installation verification checker shows that I am using Apix.vxd and wnaspi32.dll. I'm running Windows 98 first Edition, Pentium 2 400 MHz, HP 9100 Internal CD-RW which uses Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 4.05. My DVD burner is an Iomega Super DVD 4X Internal using Iomega Hotburned Pro version 2.41 build 86. I am wondering if I need to update the registry or if anyone else has any ideas. I'm probably going to have the same difficulty with DVD Decrypter.
Hi, I'd recommend giving ForceASPI a try. It will install ver. 4.60 on your system. 4.60 is generally regarded as the most compatible version. When you download and extract it, there should be an MS-DOS batch file called KILLASPI which will wipe the layer you have, run it then reboot. Now look for INSTASPI in the same folder, run it then reboot. If you still have the 4.71.2 folder, there should be a utility in there called ASPICHK.EXE which will display your current installation and whether it's working properly. If done correctly all four should be ver. 4.6 Hope this helps
Hi bozznia, Check the owners book on the burner drive. Some burners won't work with Win98 1st Ed. You may need second edition or higher. Check the system requirements for the drive. Jerry
