    Hi everyone,
i am new to this forum and i hope I am writing in the right section if not sorry in advance.

I wanted to ask how to add a quick text message at the beginning of the movies I have downloaded (AVI, MPEG4 etc.)and keep the same file extension.
I have tried windows video maker but when i save I cannot save as AVI, the I have tried sony vegas pro 8, I was able to do that but when I save it takes up to 1 hour to save a 23 minutes long episode so i am guessing with a full lengh movie will take up to 3 hours.

There is a quick way to add text to avi files.

hope that I have been clear

    Thanks

If you mean a short message clip leading into the main video, it can be done using VirtualDub and AVIDemux.
Create a jpeg with the same resolution as the main avi file.
Load into VirtualDub, set the frame rate to be the same as main AVI; duplicate the frame so that it's the required length (a three second clip @ 25 FPS = 75 frames.
Set the video compression the same as the AVI (DivX, XviD, etc) then you must load a wav audio file the same length as the text clip.
I did it by finding and avi with a silent period and used the audio part (cut down to the appropriate length) then saved the compilation as a new avi.

Load the text avi into AVIDemux, append the main avi and save the combined file.
It takes longer to type than to do.

    Here's a sample clip.
