I,m not sure if this is the appropriate question for this section in the forum , but I use Nero 7 to burn video files to discs and is there a way to add subtitles , or is there a free program anyone knows of that can do this ? Many times I download a video file from a torrent site that says the subtitles are added and are not and sends me on a wild goose chase looking for a program to open them when told windows doesn't know what program created this , so any help I appreciate

AFAIK, Nero doesn't do DVD subtitles.

If you have an AVI with separate subtitles (a .srt file perhaps) and you have a standalone player that is DivX certified, you would give the same name to the video and subtitle files and burn the files to a CD or DVD as data, thus:
    myvideo.avi
    myvideo.srt

The subtitles are selected with the remote.

To create a DVD with subtitles, use DVD Flick.
Add the video then 'edit' the title to add the subs.
DVD Flick includes 'ImgBurn' to optionally burn the dvd disk.
