Hey guyz I need some help with adding more ram to pc. I got a Asus P5K SE motherboard, Intel core 2 duo cpu e8400 @3.00ghz, 4gb gb, 64 bit vista operating system. I want to up the RAM to 8gb The current Ram I got in the PC is corsair 4gb (2x2gb) 2048mb xms2 800mhz 6400 1.8v 5-5-5-18 ver3.1. I tried looking for the same Ram but with no joy or two expensive. I have found some but the supplier is telling me it's 1.9v & that I have to up the voltage on my memory bios. Now I have a few questions, first can someone help me do this? secondly will it not affect my current Ram which is 1.8v? can I have two sticks which are 1.8v & two that are 1.9v? all the help is appreciated.
You do not have to have the same memory kit. You can use some from a different manufacturer. I did a search on newegg and found all the kits with the same specs and voltage as yours so they should all work without needing to up the voltage. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...94 1052416064 1052516065 1259916288&name=1.8V
I've never seen 1.8V XMS2 memory before, but I can certainly say that 1.9V XMS2 stuff will work fine with it. What I don't recommend you do is combine two completely differet brads.
I can just bang in the new memory & both of them will work fine without me doing anything to the memory bios?
I expect so. Even if not, you can just raise the memory voltage to 1.9, it won't harm the existing set.
For the most part you can mix ram brands without a problem. We just want you to know that it's -possible- that there could be some issues. Usually a simple google search can give you details on specific sticks. If you simply end up going with the same brand its one less thing that can go wrong. I've mixed and matched on several friends/families computers without a problem, but on my own machine i've always run the same sticks.
I've had a look at the bios, i've gone into the advanced tab, then overclocking changed it to manual, scroll down & there is a DRAM voltage which is currently on auto, i take it this is what has to be changed to 1.9v? I'll order the new memory tomorrow & give it a go, thankz for your help Sammoriss
