I have a back-up copy of Advent Rising which is not working. It installs the game fine with Daemon tools and when I run the game it displays a box saying,"A required security module can not be activated...This program can not be executed".
I tried reinstalling and still the same.. any ideas? I looked around for the .mds no cd file which I found(I think) and its still playing up. If anyone has a genuine link to that file it would be a great help.

Off of a friend who has it. There are several mentions of this problem and there is a file to fix it.

First off it's a dvd and you cannot (to my knowledge) make a working backup of a dvd-rom based game, seconde it's protected by securom 7 so good luck in finding a no cd-crack.

see the thing is it installs fine so I think it might be a problem with the install as it displays the same message even after the image is unmounted

it will install fine but to actually let you play the game it will not, trust me as I have tried numurous times and tested backups of PC dvd-rom games and have not made a working backup of them.

geestar20, first off you can make a backup of ANY dvd rom game or movie, next off ALL protection methods have workarounds / been cracked even HL2. LBManiac you are on the right track using Daemon, i guess all you need is the link to the mds which is here; http://rapidshare.de/files/4381082/mir-ar.mds.html. Happy Gaming!

I found out the problem which ended up being something simple.

I had the right mdf and mds.
I used Daemon to mount and install game.
The game has new blacklists which get-around anti-blaxx so had to use the new anti-blaxx.exe that came with the backup.

After this I had the problem of the game detecting the emulators....

After a while I decided to select option to delete the registry files rather than hide them in anti-blaxx!

...and bingo game started up and is pretty good.

(forgot to say I give up on advent rising deleted the images and had exactly same issue with Total Overdose) so now I'm re-getting the advent rising images.

I know this, but to actaully make a true 1:1 backup of a dvd rom game is not possible at this time.

we cannot discuss cracks on this site, so thats why it was not mentioned.

You need anti blaxx, you need to put the game details into it and select delete reg rather than hide

try disabling the internet while you play the game. The serial or .exe is connecting to a server and when it detects an invalid cd key it will not let you play. So disable you internet.

"The game has new blacklists which get-around anti-blaxx so had to use the new anti-blaxx.exe that came with the backup."

The security module message is caused because anti-blaxx is running. if you get the new anti-blaxx.exe it isn't detected and will run fine.
