Hi I'm looking to buy the Starview HD 1080i COMBO with LAN Port - Freeview Cable and Satellite Digital Receiver for 165 pound.
I'm with v*rgin media cable in Liverpool.

    My questions are:
The site I'm buying from says the box has a LAN port but on google images I can't see one.
The site also says "Upgrade software and channel list via usb2.0 and rs 232"
I can't see a rs 232 port on the picture either

Does the box have these ports?

Secondly I've been browsing the forums and I've noticed a couple messages saying These boxs won't be able to receive channels that you're not paying for. out of curiosity *rolls eyes*, is this true?

And last thing, I have a Playstation and a Xbox, will I be able to record gameplay with this box?

you sure that picture is of the correct box , the specs do list a lan port,2 x usb and a seriel port ,that box you have in your post is a cable/sat hd combo so maybe the site stuck up the wrong picture. you will get all the free channels via cable/sat but it wont work in the same way as the other starview (cable boxes)due to n3 , but it has a lan port(atleast in the specs) so that should give you another option . see the thread (starview 6 future proof) the box i saw and its specs was £205 so that box seems a bargain.

they made a mistake with first 500 boxes no lan port as above picture shows, the next lot has the added port so 2 different boxes and 2 different firmwares

that would explain the price difference between the one i mentioned and the one pricey has shown in his post.

The box updates through usb so no really need for the rs232, you cant record yer xbox, YES you can recieve ALL channels till Nag3 comes and yes theres 500 with no LAN port but all new ones do have it and you need to update it with the right firmware or ya will brick yer box

    Thanks everyone for your response

The shop assures me it has LAN

Also can anyone provide a little more info about nag3?
I'm in Liverpool with V*rgin m*dia, when will it affect me or is it something to do with the box itself?

Does anyone recommend a different box?
The reason I'm getting one is to watch the football on with friends, other than that it properly wont be used that much.

Would be nice list: (higher = higher priority)
    around £150
    Optical
    HDMI
    PVR
    LAN streaming
    Possible to record 360
can survive a spilt pint :)

there is a post on nagra 3 on the forum, search for it, secondly, one of these boxs are a waste of time in the current climate, with Nagra 3 rolling out, no point having a box with one part of it useless

try the afterdawn search banner top center of screen and type in nagra 3 where we stand updated to include uk affected areas (credit to mickah for that excellent post) that should tell you the areas in question . that said its a matter of time mate , maybe weeks maybe months you might get the end of the year out of it . but the end will come.

same as above, no the cable side will be useless for us, the sat side will work, better off buying a dreambox HD if you want sat and HD, look at the CS threads or use the search function above and look for Shy Chans on Dreambox, but in its present form, not worth the punt
